Ishbel, Sienna or Summer?

Freya2456 · 20/09/2021 09:13

Our shortlisted names. Not sure which one to go with! Last name ends in “son”

We were thinking either:

Ishbel Summer (Ishbel is Scottish and we have Scottish heritage)
Ishbel Millie

Summer Ishbel
Summer Isobel

Sienna Ishbel
Sienna Rose
Sienna Isobel
Need a few more middle name suggestions for Sienna if this is your pick! I do like Sienna Rose however if I can find something better bonus as I do feel Rose is very very common for a middle name…

Open to other ideas!! Thanks so much for your help!!

Ishbel is awful, sorry. It's an old lady name in Scotland and not in a good way. Isobel is much nicer.

lnsufficientFuns · 20/09/2021 09:21

Ishbel, really yes too old fashioned

It’s like being called Jamesina 😂

Kanaloa · 20/09/2021 09:24

Sienna is my favourite, then Summer, then Ishbel. If it was Isabelle/Isabel I’d probably say that, but Ishbel just isn’t nice to me. Like Sean Connery saying the very nice Isabel.

Freya2456 · 20/09/2021 09:25

That’s really interesting, it’s not old fashioned where I live at all! Very underused

I'm not Scottish but I love Ishbel. Isabel is much more commonly used so Ishbel stands out (in a good way imho). It's also sounds a bit more sassy.

I also prefer Elsbeth to Elizabeth for the same reason.

Summer and Sienna are fine. Not the kind of names that stand out in any particular way and there's likely to be more that one in a class.

If Ishbel is considered old-fashioned then it's likely to come full circle soon, like all the little girls I know called Elsie and Florence.

Chachachawoo · 20/09/2021 09:29

To my ear, Ishbel sounds unattractive
Love Isobel and Sienna

Pollythecat15 · 20/09/2021 09:35

I like Sienna Isobel.

Bombaloorina · 20/09/2021 09:41

Well, I was called Isobel in the 70s and it was desperately old lady / fashioned then.

It’s not now, so make of that what you will. Maybe Ishbel might turn as well.

Can’t say I’m a fan of it - I went to school with one - I was the only Isobel and she was certainly the only Ishbel!

BubbleCoffee · 20/09/2021 10:23

Summer is a beautiful name. Look no further.

TidyDancer · 20/09/2021 10:31

Isobel as an alternative is lovely. Sienna is okay. Summer I really don't like.

ilovemykids5 · 20/09/2021 11:31

Ishbel and summer are not very nice.
Sienna rose is beautiful

AnyaMoondial · 20/09/2021 20:09

Summer! It’s a happy name.

finallychangedmyusername · 20/09/2021 20:16

I really like Ishbel Summer.

manhattenrain · 20/09/2021 20:18

I love both Summer and Sienna.Smile

I actually knew a young Ishbel when I lived in Edinburgh. The dd of a colleague. She must be in her late teens / early twenties now. So I personally don't see it as an older name...

That said, I'm not mad on it.

I think I would go with Ishbel of the three though. The others are considered a bit down-market, (where I live anyway - I know it varies from place to place).

DramaAlpaca · 20/09/2021 20:52

Sienna Isobel for me

OuiOuiBonjour · 20/09/2021 21:04

Sienna Rose by a country mile, it's a lovely name. They are all okay though except the Ishbel ones which, as a Scot, is a name I do not like at all.

I do think one syllable names work nicely with Sienna.

So Sienna Maeve, Sienna Niamh, Sienna Cait, Sienna Ruth, Sienna Hope, Sienna Maude, Sienna Claire, Sienna June, Sienna May (also popular though), Sienna Leigh, Sienna Bea, Sienna Faye, Sienna Anne, Sienna Belle.

Sienna Rose is still my favourite though.

LostInTheColonies · 20/09/2021 23:29

Ishbel by a million miles - much classier than either of your other options.

Ishbel Summer is good.

I don't know any nice Siennas (sorry!) and it also seems to be a name that encourages parents to use yooneek spelling.

Kanaloa · 20/09/2021 23:42

and it also seems to be a name that encourages parents to use yooneek spelling.

But op is planning on using the correct spelling of Sienna. The unusually spelled/alternative version of a name she is using would be Ishbel, which will be forever misheard as Isabel. I personally dislike it but if spelling is the issue I’d definitely avoid it!

Freya2456 · 21/09/2021 00:45

Thanks everyone

I don't like Ishbel at all. I know it's a Scottish name, but it sounds very much like a man's name - maybe like a hybrid of Ishamel and Abdul? I'd assume Ishbel was a boy.

Sienna and Summer are equally pretty.

HeadlessGummyBears · 23/09/2021 05:59

Sienna Rose is very pretty, but I do think having a more meaningful middle name might be better. Summer Isobel sounds lovely. I’m not too sure on Ishbel because of the potential spelling mishaps. It could work as a middle name, if it’s not used very often?

KirstenBlest · 24/09/2021 21:35

Ishbel

Sienna Rose isn't great. Rose is a filler middle name and Sienna sounds like Siena, so it sounds like a brown colour

Summer rhymes with bummer

IVflytrap · 25/09/2021 19:01

I like Ishbel. I'm getting a bit bored of all the Isabellas and Isabelles, so Ishbel is a nice variant. Ishbel Summer is my favourite combination out of your list.

Summer is OK as a first name. Better than Sienna.

I know of 5 Siennas born in the last couple of years to various family, friends and colleagues. Three are Sienna Rose. I don't know the middle names of the other two. In 20 years time Sienna will be dated in the way that Kelly or Stacey is now.
