Welsh middle name for Aurelia

Tucancrossing · 19/09/2021 19:11

Aurelia (nickname Reia)...?

Aurelia Seren (golden star 🌟)
Aurelia Arwen
Aurelia Ffion
Aurelia Eira
Aurelia Eirlys
Aurelia Rhosyn
Aurelia Celyn

Open to other Welsh suggestions... DH is Welsh and our son has a Welsh middle name. I'm English though so need something I can pronounce, I think I've got my head round all of the above (broadly).

Carys or Sian

I think consonant sounds work better with Aurelia which is very vowel heavy. In particular Aurelia Eira is a real tongue twister. I'd avoid anything starting with A as it blends in with the end of Aurelia, and I'd also avoid the strong R sounds with Rhosyn which are also in Aurelia. Seren, Ffion, and Celyn all sound good to me.

CaffiSaliMali · 19/09/2021 20:28

Aurelia Eira is a bit of a tongue twister. I do love the name Eira though.

From your list I really like Aurelia Seren and Aurelia Ffion.

Aurelia Haf (this is a popular Welsh middle name which means summer, so golden summer with Aurelia. It's pronounced like halve)
Aurelia Tesni (means the warmth from the sun and is pronounced TESS-nee)
Aurelia Mari (one of the Welsh versions of Mary, pronounced marry)
Aurelia Teleri (TEL-erry, the eri part is pronounced like the erry in Kerry and Terry. There's also Meleri and Eleri, although the latter is a bit tongue twisty with Aurelia)
Aurelia Enfys (the Welsh word for rainbow used as a name, so golden rainbow. Pronounced EN-viss).

Aurelia Bethan
Aurelia Blodwen

A monosyllabic middle name will scan best if you anticipate saying her full name out loud more than once in a blue moon.

Aurelia Mai
Aurelia Haf
Aurelia Siân

diamondintheflesh · 19/09/2021 22:14

Gwen

When I saw your title, I immediately thought Seren. Glad to see you’d also thought of it! That would be my choice. Aurelia Seren.

LostInTheColonies · 19/09/2021 22:57

Aurelia Carys
Aurelia Heledd (Hel-eth)

FancyFlipFlops · 20/09/2021 00:51

Aurelia Cariad or Aurelia Seren for me.

CycloGoose · 20/09/2021 05:36

Please don't go for the golden rainbow one... Really just makes me think of piddle 🤦🏼‍♀️ so sorry!

I love Aurelia Seren also love the Caitlin and Gwen options. Possibly because I taught a beautiful Welsh family and these were the two girls' names.

Good luck!

Kevinbrady · 20/09/2021 05:41

Aurelia Hedd
Aurelia Wyn

Anon778833 · 20/09/2021 05:44

I'd go for Seren

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 20/09/2021 05:54

Aurelia Enfys

daisypond · 20/09/2021 06:40

It needs a consonant to start or it could be too vowel heavy. Ffion is nice. Seren is a bit naff now surely.

spiderlight · 20/09/2021 11:38

Aurelia Siân flows quite nicely.

DacwMamYnDwad · 20/09/2021 12:35

I doubt that you would get the pronunciation of Eira, Eirlys or Rhosyn right. I'm not keen on Seren, Celyn, Rhosyn, or Eirlys.

Ffion is nice but is more of a first name than a middle name

I really wouldn't call my child Golden Snow (never eat yellow snow)- so wouldn't use Eira.

I'd go for something that is more of a middle name like Mai or Haf (not really suitable for a winter baby), or use a name with strong consonants like Catrin or Bronwen.

DacwMamYnDwad · 20/09/2021 12:46

Aurelia Mair (My with r on the end)

DacwMamYnDwad · 20/09/2021 12:48

Heledd - Hell-eth but with the 'th' like the th in this, that, there not th as in thing, think, bath

LadyCarolineDester · 20/09/2021 12:54

Haf
Gwen

DeeDimer · 20/09/2021 12:55

Non?
