What do you think of this name? It's gaining popularity in France (already 49th)

BiscuitLover09876 · 19/09/2021 05:44

I like it

Kanaloa · 19/09/2021 05:54

It’s alright. Reminds me of Game of Thrones, don’t really have any other associations with it. I would spell it Lyanna.

sympatico1 · 19/09/2021 06:37

I do feel sorry for children that are given unusual names, they spend their whole life having to spell it out and invariably people get it wrong.

WisestIsShe · 19/09/2021 06:41

It makes me think of the thing Tarzan swings about on. Sorry.

custardbear · 19/09/2021 06:53

It's ok, I prefer illiana

Elisemum · 19/09/2021 07:15

It’s very nice but I’d spell Liana.

toastofthetown · 19/09/2021 08:07

It’s pretty. It fits in with the liquid consonant names that are popular at the moment (Lily, Isla, Olivia etc.) which makes it sound a bit blah to me. There are lots of popular names which need spelling (Catherine, Madeleine, Stephen) and people coped, so the spelling variances wouldn’t be a dealbreaker.

RuthW · 19/09/2021 11:37

It's nice- but I love any'arna' names

MrsFin · 19/09/2021 11:51

Is it
Lee-anna
Lee-ah-na
Lie-anna
Lie-ah-na
Or some other less obvious pronunciation?

I'd pronounce it Lee ah na. 3 syllables.

Yes, a different spelling changes a lot in this case.

Without the 'y' is much better.

(have you considered Lydia?)

Unsure1983 · 20/09/2021 00:44

Nothingy.

Kanaloa · 20/09/2021 04:06

@MrsFin

I think it could be pronounced any of those ways! I would pronounce it like Lyanna Mormont on Game of Thrones, probably.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 20/09/2021 04:30

Not a fan but would spell it Lianna or Liana.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/09/2021 06:34

If you’re in the UK many people will assume that it’s Leanna, which is a bit less pretty and rather dated.

I was given a very normal name, but with a 'unique' spelling, it's worse because people start to write the name and then have to cross it out.

OP

I'd think Game of Thrones too, it's pretty and the character in GOT is pretty cool but do you want that association?
