Emmeline or Madeleine?

I love both of these names- I think they’re quite similar in vibe and just think they’re both really pretty and elegant.

Which do you prefer? And/or are there any other similar names you’d suggest?

They're both nice. I would probably go for Madeleine because Emmeline is so similar to Emily which is quite popular still, so likely to get mixed up or misheard as Emily.

I like Emmeline-individual but not weird. I also like Madeleine but dislike the inevitable shortening to Maddy.

I like Emmeline , it was my top name if a girl and had a strong woman behind it , ie Emmeline Pankhurst

Emmeline is great! Madeleine is nice but there are lots and I am not keen on Maddy.

I would choose Emmeline. I don’t like Madeleine/Maddie at all, I think Emmeline is much nicer.

Why don’t you wait until baby is born, and then see what suits her best?

Ultimately they will both be shortened most of the time. Do you prefer Emma/Em or Maddy?

Emmeline is nice, but you would have to accept Emmy as a nickname.

As pp suggested, Josephine also nice.

Emmeline. As well as benefits from links to a feminist icon, it also has the nicer nn imo (Emme). Madeleine is gorgeous but so many of them seem to get Maddie which I'm personally not keen on.

Well, obviously I’m biased but have always loved my name.

I am an Emmeline. If I were you Id rethink it. Ive spent 41 yrs being called Emily , Emma , Emma-line, Aveline , Adaline etc very very few people can even spell my name never mind remember it.
