Me and husband struggling to agree on a girls name! We already have a Cassandra who goes by Cassie ..one of the very few names we agree on is Josie. We’re both unsure about whether to go with Josefina, Josefine or Josephine though.

Also will Josie and Cassie sound too similar with the ‘see’ sound at the end?

Are you white British? If so, use Josephine. It's not the best name though - but josie is ok if you use that.

Josie is a great name, I would go with the Josephine spelling unless you have links to a country where the -f spelling is used.

CyanideInTheFishPaste · 14/09/2021 20:52

Unless you're German/Swedish/from other country where Josefine is the more usual spelling I'd definitely go for Josephine. Lovely name. Josefina/Josephina seems a bit clumpy in comparison.

I like Josie and Cassie together.

We are both white British..I liked Josefina as it popped up on a ‘similar names’ list to others I liked (Isabella and Gabriella) but I see what you mean..could use Josephina I just didn’t think it looked as nice but I guess it could look odd

I think Josie and Cassie sound fine together. I like Josephine. Prefer it as a full name and definitely that spelling. How about Seraphina, Ophelia, Athena, Serena, Cecilia?

SageRosemary · 14/09/2021 21:42

Josephine is lovely, could also shorten to JoJo

RuthW · 14/09/2021 21:43

Josephine is lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2021 21:51

I'd go for Josephine. Cassie and Josie are fine together.

BananaPB · 14/09/2021 21:57

I wouldn't be sure about how to pronounce the ending of Josefine ( "fine" rhyming with shine?) The "f " also made me wonder if it was a name from the continent so the J was a "y" sound.

BananaPB · 14/09/2021 21:57

So I'd use "ph"

Wole · 14/09/2021 21:58

Ooh Josephina is nice

NannyR · 14/09/2021 22:06

If you are wanting Josie, you could go for Josette or Josanne instead.

ShaneTheThird · 14/09/2021 22:10

Josephine 100%

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 15/09/2021 07:15

I have a friend who has Cassie and josie :) they go nicely together

ILoveShula · 15/09/2021 12:54

If I saw Josefina/Josefine I'd think it was pronounced Yozzefina/Yozzefinuh. ot Hossefina/Hossefinuh

and would ask something like German, Spanish?

Balonzette · 15/09/2021 14:42

LOVE Josephine.

AutumnColours9 · 16/09/2021 00:31

I love Josephine and think they sound great together. I would always use the most popular spelling if no sentimental reasons etc. Just much easier!
