Francis (Frank/ie), Jude, Isaac or Patrick?

(Suggestions welcome, but I think we have considered every boys name that currently exists in the English language. At least, that's how it feels. Also, I am fussy)

What a lovely list! I like them all but like Patrick most.

BananaPB · 13/09/2021 14:41

I like Patrick then Frank or Frankie (not Francis)

Realyorkshiretea · 13/09/2021 14:42

I know a little Frank and he’s adorable. Also like Patrick. Jude and Isaac are a bit wet.

PassionPeach · 13/09/2021 14:42

Francis is lovely for a lad. Frank is too, but not Frankie. Jude and Isaac - I know lots of those, Patrick is nicer.

Anotherhill · 13/09/2021 14:48

Isaac

stalebananabread · 13/09/2021 14:55

Is it wishful thinking to say that Patrick might just have the edge here? Maybe I need to up my lobbying efforts. In my mind, this baby has been Patrick since before we knew he was a boy and I love it, but my partner's on the fence with it.

I do really like Francis and it sounds great with our daughter's name, but I'm not sure if it sounds a bit wet with a long A pronunciation. We have southern English accents, and I wonder if "Fraahnsis" is just a bit much?

Isaac is not at all my usual style but it's really grown on me. The misspelling would drive me mad though, I'm sure.

Jude... meh. It's fine, I guess? Bit early-00's trendy but it seems a pretty solid sort of name. I could learn to love it!

Isaac.

Not keen on any of the others.

GemmaRuby · 13/09/2021 15:02

If you love Patrick, go for Patrick. It’s a good name.
Definitely step up the lobbying efforts! Just start calling him baby Patrick and it will grow on your DH hopefully.

BreadmanAndCake · 13/09/2021 15:18

I have a Jude and love his name, it took until we first saw him to decide on his name though!

ofwarren · 13/09/2021 15:31

I'd choose Patrick. It's nice and underused these days.

SirChenjins · 13/09/2021 15:36

I love Jude and Isaac - not keen on Patrick or Francis, they seem very old fashioned (and not in a good way) like Wendy, Maureen, that type of name. I just hear Frankie in a broad Glasgow accent - usually said along the lines of Frankieeee Boyyyyyyyyy Grin

DotDotDotDotDot · 13/09/2021 15:41

Isaac is my favourite. Jude is nice. Francis and Patrick I’d keep for middle names.

stalebananabread · 13/09/2021 17:47

OK, there is clearly no consensus here. I'm just going to call him Baby Boy until he's old enough to pick his own name.

@SirChenjins I'll be honest - I have form here. Our daughter's name is really marmite and old fashioned. I love it, obviously, but almost everyone over the age of 45 raised their eyebrows when we announced it including a memorable "oh god, that was my horrible mother-in-law's name"

We have a very little baby Francis, he’s Frank/Frankie and I’ve had lots of positive comments on his name

You can tell I’m over 45 by my reaction to it Grin

There was a thread recently about 60s and 70s type names that may be due a comeback - I think your names were on it from memory! To my 52 year old ears they sounded very old fashioned and ones to swerve, but I remember my mum saying the same thing when names like Florence, Maude, Elsie etc started reappearing.

Himawarigirl · 13/09/2021 18:16

Would be Isaac for me. I love the name but it didn’t work with my DH’s surname. Jude would be second choice. Don’t like Francis or Patrick, sorry.

hermioneweasley44 · 13/09/2021 18:17

Frankie or Jude. Frankie maybe has the edge for me. Very cute.

WestToEast · 13/09/2021 18:18

I think we must have pretty similar tastes. We don't know what we're having, other than a baby obviously, but are really struggling for boy names. I really like Jude and Francis (although also trying to persuade husband that Frances would be a good girl MN). And I like Patrick too, plus it's a family name. He, however, likes Isaac and I'm much less keen. At least it's more mainstream than his other suggestions...

But for me, Jude or Francis top out of your list.

Enko · 13/09/2021 18:40

I love Francis

Wole · 13/09/2021 18:41

1.Patrick
2.Isaac
3.Jude

4.Francis

Polly271220 · 13/09/2021 18:45

I have a frankie....still love the name

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 13/09/2021 19:11

Isaac! But then I’m biased Grin

Phyllis321 · 13/09/2021 19:14

Jude.

BeKindBeYou · 13/09/2021 19:16

I love the name Jude!
