Is the name Lily to childish or does it sound to mature enough for an adult? Or does it sounds too fragile or sweet?

Ahh I'm biased as I have a Lily. She's 16 and she's such a strong, smart and independent young woman.
She wants to join the police and is now starting her a-levels to achieve that. She is incredibly fit - puts me to shame! Grin
She is also the kindest and sweetest girl who looked after us all when we had Covid.
Someone once said that she is an all rounder with a sweet name. I think she carries the name well Smile

It's been very popular for a long time so there will be a lot of them. I think those really 'soft' names are starting to sound dated and stronger names are sounding fashionable. But if you don't care about using a name when it's on the downward curve of its use, it's a pretty enough name.

Polly or Sally or Jilly would be a bit stronger sounding and there'd be fewer of them if you care about that.

Disagree stronly with this, Lily has always been a name in its own right even if some people use it as a nickname or diminutive of Elizabeth, Sally and Jilly are not comparable.

It’s been so popular for such a long time that I wouldn’t worry about how it would works as an adult, as she’ll be one of thousands of adult Lilys.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 13/09/2021 12:07

I like it but it’s incredibly popular so she won’t be the only one by any means, at school.

KirstenBlest · 13/09/2021 12:14

Agree with pp that it has been popular for a long time now.
Look at the ONS stats or darkgreener.

I love Jill (but not Gillian)and like Sally.

NatKat2 · 13/09/2021 14:07

Its lovely but so popular! X

bloominglovelyorange · 13/09/2021 14:10

Lovely name

MsTSwift · 13/09/2021 14:11

It’s a wallpaper name now as there are so many of them.

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 13/09/2021 14:13

Wall over used. And now you have the Meghan/Harry connection which is a turn off.

TatianaBis · 13/09/2021 21:40

My thought is - not another one.

CharlieBoo · 13/09/2021 22:05

So so so many of them

Happenchance · 13/09/2021 22:11

I'm not a fan. It's too closed in on itself for my liking.

danascully96 · 14/09/2021 21:57

I love the name Lily! It’s sweet and can be feisty depending on the wearer. I think it ages well, too. Lily Tomlin springs to mind as a great example of a Lily both feisty and older.

That said, I do find the lack of crispness to Lily irksome sometimes. It quickly becomes puddly sounding, but that’s not the worst thing in the world. But also, Lily is often spelled like Lilly and unconscientious people might spell your daughter’s name as Lilly more than you’d think.

It’s still a fab name and deserves its gargantuan popularity Smile
