baby names for twins (boy & girl)!
any opinions or suggestions on names would rlly help as can't get names that sound like 'twin names'. Do they even have to have names that go together?

boy
-wilbur
-laurie
-elio
-elijah

girl
-marceline
-magenta
-mina (dh is big fan of books!)
-also love ananias as is remind me of anais which i love but can't use as if remind me of a character from a kids show my niece watches! also cautious as i know it is a boys name in the bible

Elijah & Marceline sounds cute...there names don't necessarily have to match, they are a individual

PeachesPumpkin · 12/09/2021 23:12

OP all your names are lovely, like the PP my favourites are also Elijah and Marceline.
I also agree it’s wise to avoid matching names for twins - not good for their psychological development as individuals, and also kind of naff!

DoucheCanoe · 12/09/2021 23:23

Definitely avoid "twin names"!

I like Elijah for a boy and Laurie/Lori for a girl although I'm not keen on it for a boy for some reason.

Congrats!

For twin names, if you want them to sound like a 'set', I think you can match any of the things below. (Using your names as egs, along with some twins I know - nothing meant by omission - just ones I can think of pairs for).

  1. starting letters Wilbur and Wren Laurie and Leona Elio and Eva

Marceline and Micah
Magenta and Miles

  1. syllable sounds mid-name Wilbur and Delilah (il) Elijah and Bella (el)

Magenta and George (ge)
Mina and Dominic (in)

Sarah and Catherine ('ah')

  1. overlapping letters in the names Laurie and Rachel Elijah and Julie

Henry and Theo

Mina and Adam
Marceline and Cameron

  1. ending syllable/sound Wilbur and Amber Laurie and Courtney

Marceline and Benjamin
Magenta and Elijah

Although, if you match too many elements the names can loose their uniqueness and sound very 'matchy' (eg Laurie and Lauren, Marceline and Marcus).

As said by PP, don't think they have be be a set any more than other siblings - pick the names you like most for each DC Smile

Ananias sounds like a pineapple.
Elio would be better as Elias.

Otherwise your list is made up of nice names which sound well together.
Congratulations!

My preference is for names without a vowel at the end: so Imogen and Jude, Caroline and Silas, Genevieve and Jonathon etc.

CaitlinEJ · 13/09/2021 08:06

They don’t need matching names, my twin brothers do not have matching names, my twins names kind of match but that wasn’t intentional and we were going to change one because I didn’t want a match but loved both names so went with it. I love Elijah but not a big fan of any of the girls names (I do love Anais though, we considered it)

Synchrony · 13/09/2021 12:58

I like Laurie and Marceline the most.

Ananias for a girl is a HUGE no from me. I think immediately of the morally corrupt pharisee in the Bible. It would be bad on a boy, but on a girl I would really pity her.

Sorry, I think I'm thinking of Annas and Caiaphas. Still think it's bad though.
MissyB1 · 13/09/2021 13:07

Out of your list I prefer Laurie and Mina. I wouldn’t go for names with the same letters it’s too twee! Some other suggestions;

Joseph and Lara
Caleb and Maia
Conal and Ria

Balonzette · 13/09/2021 15:48

Ananias is a) a biblical man who b) got struck down and killed on the spot along with his wife for lying to God. It's very much a boy's name and not suitable for a baby girl! Very different vibe to Anais.

I love your boy's names, except Elio which is just okay. I don't like your girls names much. With Wilbur or Laurie I'd pair a soft vintage name like Clara or Flora.

Wirh Elijah biblical, like Esther or Tabitha or Magdalena.

FawnDrench · 13/09/2021 16:15

I like Wilbur and Magenta.

Parker231 · 13/09/2021 16:18

We have b/g twins and purposely chose individual names. They may be twins but they are individuals first. There names are totally different.

Kite22 · 13/09/2021 16:51

You don't need "matchy match" names - they are going to be individual - although I presume all of us have a 'type' of name we like so you are unlikely to end up with 'Arabella and Kev' or whatever.

In terms of your names, I really don't like any of the girl suggestions.
I like Elijah, and Laurie is okayish.

user1493494961 · 13/09/2021 16:54

Like Elijah and Laurie, short for Laurence. I don't like any of your girl names.

Wole · 13/09/2021 18:57

Please don't go matchy matchy.

As long as one doesn't have a really unique name and the other a really frequently top 10 used name it will be fine.

Don't like your girls' list though.

SaltySheepdog · 13/09/2021 21:43

Wilbur and Laurie are great. Laurie might be nice foe a boy or girl

Wilbur and magenta work

TatianaBis · 13/09/2021 21:47

Posters will tell you that names don’t need together but they do. Going together doesn’t mean matchy matchy like Rosie and Posie.

CanofCant · 14/09/2021 09:37

I love Magenta.

olidora63 · 14/09/2021 21:16

Laurie and Mina

Kanaloa · 14/09/2021 21:28

I would stick with Elijah & Marceline. Both lovely names.

Elio & Laurie remind me of Timothee Chalamet (separately probably not but seeing them together does)
Wilbur I’m just not a fan, same with Mina. Magenta is just a bit ‘much’ for me.

TatianaBis · 14/09/2021 22:54

Elijah & Marceline

Elijah biblical classic, Marceline French/American.

Really don’t work together at all.
