I’d go for Carl of the 2 spellings. It does seem a bit dated to me but maybe as I haven’t heard it used for a while - I knew a few at school in the 80’s. I’d say I’m indifferent to the name, it’s fine. Good luck.

I was at school with a Carl, twin to Craig. They’d be in their 40’s now. Never met another that I can remember! Sinds leaving the uk I’ve met a good few Karl’s all 60+.

I rather like it, could be about due a comeback!

I love Carla as a name. Carl is my preferred spelling for a boy

I personally don't like it. Carl sounds like a 42 year old accountant - can't picture it being a good baby name.

Karl "sounds" a bit younger perhaps, but it's really not my cup of tea

Yeh, I feel it's pretty dated too - I went to school in the 80s with a Karl and not met one since. Just looked at ONS stats and Carl is 1083rd and Karl is 1316th!! Didn't think they'd be that unpopular!

Carl was trouble at school. I don't know any others. Personally not keen.

@DramaAlpaca Oh no need to be sorry - I'm getting a bit desperate in my search for the right name now and trying to see if I could grow to like basically anything!!

Names are funny though aren't they - I see "Cole" suggested a far bit on these boards and from a pronunciation perspective there isn't loads of different between that and Carl but yet it seems like a totally different name.

I knew a Karl at university. He was a lovely sweet kind man. Named after Marx.

I know a Karl he's a lovely guy and I much prefer the K spelling

My lifelong best friend is a Karl (after Marx.) He's is very left wing. Why not - it's different and he'll be the only one in his class. My Karl is lovely and has done very well for himself.

Carl's nice enough - I'd probably assume he was European or European heritage though (possibly German or Scandi) as I think it's pretty rare in the UK now for babies. I prefer the C spelling, unless you have a special reason for the K.

Carl is better but it seems like the name of a 50-year old.

I know two in their early 40s. One is spelled with a K and the other a C. My friend has a 12 year old Carl.

All I can picture is Karl Kennedy from Neighbours.
