Lydia - pretty, not the most exciting name
Ottilie - very trendy and I don't see the appeal at all
Adina - it's ok, but feels a bit insubstantial and generic. Maybe because I know two young Alinas, an Amina and an Athena, so another A_ina name just feels meh
Maisie - twee and popular
Fern - love Fern. It's so pretty and simple. One of my favourites
Hebe - I love it, but it's polarising
Claudia - my other favourite. It's so classy and elegant

toastofthetown · 12/09/2021 13:37

I missed your question on middle names. Personally I like family/meaningful names in the middle spot. I'd try to avoid Rose, Grace, May which are so common in the middle spot at the moment. Would you consider using any of the names on your list for a middle name if you don't use it for a first name?

Comedycook · 12/09/2021 13:42

Claudia

TenThousandSpoons · 12/09/2021 13:48

Lydia - strong name
Ottilie - pretty but maybe too frilly
Adina - never heard of this before. Not sure how to pronounce it
Maisie - sweet but has a v different feel to all the others on your list (less upmarket)
Fern - too plain
Hebe - not keen. Heebie jeebies
Claudia - my favourite on your list

DLB22 · 12/09/2021 13:57

I have an Ottilie. I love the name and it gets so many compliments! Seems to be very up and coming

Twinkie01 · 12/09/2021 13:57

Claudia is my absolute favourite. So underused and classic.

northstars · 12/09/2021 13:59

Claudia - lovely name and not very common amongst babies these days!

mairiflowers · 12/09/2021 14:01

Lydia - really lovely
Ottilie - a bit silly sounding - try-hard
Adina - Turkish sounding?
Maisie - a bit cutesie
Fern - too harsh sounding for my taste
Hebe - reminds me of hobo Blush
Claudia - lovely and classy

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2021 14:06

Fern is by far my favourite, followed by Lydia.

Maisie is twee so that's a big no for me.

I like Hebe, but it's a marmite one.

Adina, not sure.

Claudia is fine, Ottilie is pretty but a bit on the frilly side, neither are my thing but they are nice enough.

mairiflowers · 12/09/2021 14:06

How about

Claudia Ann
Claudia Danielle
Claudia Esther
Claudia Zoe

Lydia Rose
Lydia Eve
Lydia Elizabeth
Lydia Sarah

Elisemum · 12/09/2021 15:04

Otillee sound like otter. Rest is nice

bluetang7 · 12/09/2021 15:34

Lydia - SmileSmileSmile
Ottilie - SmileSmile (but I think this is similar to Olivia, which is very popular)
Adina - SmileSmile
Maisie - Smile
Fern - Smile
Hebe - Probably my least favourite, but I am not sure how it is pronounced.
Claudia - SmileSmileSmile

I like Maisie and Fern, but I prefer longer names with nn options. If that is something you don't want, they are very pretty.

I think we have quite similar taste - I really like this list!

A name I've always loved (old English name, basically unranked) is Iola (eye-oh-la) - that might be too unusual for you but thought I'd suggest it Smile

bluetang7 · 12/09/2021 15:42

Sorry, missed the middle name question.

For longer names, I think Zoë (Zoey, Zoë) is pretty and would do well with the O sounds you seem to like. It means life.

For shorter names. I think Evelyn might work (wished for child) or Celia (heavenly) could work for any!

E.g.

Lydia Zoë
Ottilie Celia
Adina Zoë
Maisie Celia
Fern Evelyn
Hebe Celia
Claudia Zoë

Hope that helps!

Claudia is gorgeous, elegant and so underused. Lydia to me is the slightly more "popular" version - but still very classic and pretty. Similar possibilities would be Julia, Celia, Antonia, or Cecilia.

Fern and Hebe are okay - would make nice, "botanical" middle names imo - other suggestions would be Bryony, Jessamine or Ianthe.

Adina is not my taste - it reminds me of Edina so a bit Ab Fab. Maisie is a bit cutesy as a given name imo, and Ottilie too trendy for me (I think it was the most popular girls name in The Independent birth announcements a year or two ago!)

NigellaSeed · 12/09/2021 16:38

Claudia and Lydia get my vote. Pretty, classy, timeless

glitterfarts · 12/09/2021 16:44

Lydia - ok
Ottilie - dog name
Adina- prefer Delina or Adelina
Maisie - cute
Fern - lovely
Hebe - sounds like a disease
Claudia - lovely

Any middle name except Grace and Rose. What about a grandparent name or middle name? Or your surname if the baby is having dad's?

rainbowstardrops · 12/09/2021 16:49

I really like Ottilie. I think it would go well with a timeless traditional name like Jane.

MumofSpud · 12/09/2021 16:54

Lydia can't imagine a baby Lydia but ok Ottilie ok - v popular
Adina similar to Ab Fab! Don't like!
Maisie ok v popular
Fern I would spell it Fearne
Hebe no
Claudia no

Wole · 12/09/2021 18:19

Lydia - love it
Ottilie - hate it
Adina - ok
Maisie - ok, I know a really edgy Maisie and it somehow suits her.
Fern- no
Hebe - I think this is a plant? Kind of cute.
Claudia - like it

whatausername · 12/09/2021 20:16

Maisie is twee and trendy. Ottilie is (to my eyes and ears) butt ugly and will date. So I'd remove those two. Adina is fine but very trendy in that it is another A- girl name and vowel heavy. Hebe, Claudia and Lydia are nice. Fern is inoffensive.

WaitinginVain · 12/09/2021 20:38

I also think Ottilie has an ugly sound - not sure why as it's similar to Natalie and I like that
Agree with PP that Maisie is a bit twee
Hebe would make me think of the plant and don't think it's that nice anyway
Fern - a bit bland
Claudia - OK but a bit harsh sounding somehow
Adina - quite nice
Lydia - my favourite and I know it's overused but think I'd pair it with Rose. That would be a really pretty name.

Blue4YOU · 12/09/2021 20:45

I have a Lydia so I’m biased. I also had a Grace.
Other than that I quite like Claudia and Maisie.

xprincessxjanetx · 12/09/2021 21:20

Maisie is my favourite from your list.

Aorh · 13/09/2021 01:00

Love Lydia. Claudia’s nice. But a fan of the others.

namechange18279 · 22/09/2021 22:23

Hi everyone, thank you for all your feedback Smile

We have narrowed it down to Lydia, Ottilie and Claudia for first names. What are your opinions?

Also thinking of Fern as a middle name because I think it would go nicely with the above names.
