Pregnant with my first and worried that we’ve rushed into names. DH and I have been pretty in agreement about names we like so seems to have been a quick decision and now I’m starting to doubt what we’ve chosen. Mainly worried they are all very common. My name is quite unusual and while I love it now due to the links to family I hated it as a child I could never get things with my name on etc. DH has a very common name and doesn’t care. Surname is common Mc name. Team yellow and will probably make decision once baby is here.

For a boy middle name probably William we like
Rory
Euan
Oliver

For a girl middle name almost certainly Rose (family name). We like
Ella
Evie
Norah
Hazel

Any other suggestions of thing we might like? I think we’re quite keen on fairly traditional sounding names. Thoughts?

Love the name Norah, wow haven't heard that name for years - definitely due a comeback. Norah Rose sounds lovely.

Ellen is also a lovely name that has had a bit of a resurgence.

I really like all those apart from Hazel which is just a bit frumpy for me. I like Rory and Norah best although I'd possibly go with Ruaridh rather than Rory.

Oliver, Ella and Evie strike me as very very common these days. However, the others are all really lovely and more interesting/unusual!

Fwiw I love both Rory and Euan, and Norah Rose is absolutely beautiful too

For a boy middle name probably William we like
Rory
Euan
Oliver

I like your boys names. Oliver is popular of course but more classic and timeless and doesn't tend to merge as much with other boy names. Rory is very trendy at the moment and loads of names beginning with Ro --- are shooting up top 100 (Rory and Roman for example two of the fastest rising names). So I think Rory, Roman, Ronnie etc will date badly but it's an ok name.
Here's the graph of Rory.. it's 📈 boomed

William is lovely

How about a classic but underused name like Peter, Simon, Matthew etc

KeepSmiling89 · 10/09/2021 12:35

I like all of these names, especially the boy ones (but all were turned down by DH when I gave him my list - having a girl, so doesn't really matter though!). Love William as well...it's my dad's name and I've always liked it, so maybe I'm biased!

The only girl name I'm not so keen on is Evie...it's one of those names that I feel is very 'cute' for a little girl, but wouldn't necessarily suit her as she grows up, prefer Eve personally (could use Evie as a nick/pet name for her until she's older). Ella is nice, but becoming a very popular name these days (along with Ellie etc...). Norah and Hazel are my 2 favourites from your girl list.
Rose is such a lovely, classic middle name and would go with any of your girl names.

Kite22 · 10/09/2021 12:43

Love Rory
I do like Euan.
Oliver, I think it depends how long your surname is. Oliver McRae is nice but Oliver McGilleray is a heck of a mouthful every time you have to give your name.

Really don't like Norah - just makes me think of wrinkled old tights but I suppose it fits in with what I consider to be 'old lady names' being back in fashion over the last 8 - 10 years
I like Hazel
Ella and Evie okay but in my mind seem a bit 'little girly' rather than 'strong independent woman' -y . Again, it is probably an 'of a time' thing as all of those Ellas and Evies grow up into being their own women.

Ricekrispie22 · 10/09/2021 16:30

Rory William had the best ring to it. I wouldn’t put Euan before William.
Hazel Rose is a bit too botanical imo but Hazel is a lovely name.

Alfie
Freddie
Barney
Henry
Archie
Connor
Tobias

Thea
Martha
Freya
Isla
Orla

I love all your boys' names, but only Hazel of the girls' names.

Not Norah, it's frumpy, and Ella and Evie are everywhere.

smugsparkle · 15/09/2021 22:49

norah reminds me of nitty nora the nit nurse and nora batty from last of the summer wine....sorry

oliver and evie are my favourites

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 16/09/2021 17:01

Evie and Ellas are everywhere, Especially paired with Rose. It’s like the default middle names for girls.

I like Norah but it doesn’t go with Rose.

FirstTimeMommy2021 · 16/09/2021 17:12

I like Arthur William and Heidi Rose
