Why is choosing a name so hard?

My partner and I just can’t seem to agree on a name. I want something a bit different but partner is a bit more traditional.

We have some names that we like but not enough to name our child them. Our last name ends in O so wouldn’t really want a name ending in that because it’s too rhyme-y.
-Jasper
-Ziggy
-Vincent (Vinny)
-Robert (Bertie)
-Holden
-Atticus

Any suggestions???

Edward - Eddie
Elvis

I really like your list, Atticus and Vincent were on my boys list as well so we might have similar tastes.

We have an Axl and an Erik.

I also liked:

Romeo,
Atlas,
Bjorn,
Fjord,
Leonardo (nn Leo)

As a compromise with your husband you could try a more traditional name with a more unusual shortening maybe:

Christopher/ Kit
Alexander/ Xander

Rhett
Wyatt
Hudson
Hayden
Walter
Martin
Thorus
Blaine

Do people not give “normal” names anymore? Does every name has to be trendy/new/out there? What about normal lovely names like Robert, Christopher, James, Paul, Simon, Conor, Matthew, Harry etc?

Warrickdaviesasplates · 09/09/2021 14:37

"Normal is an illusion, what is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly"

Some people might see normal where others see boring. Shockingly people have different tastes and different backgrounds.

Would love to see siblings Ozzy and Ziggy!

Flowerchild547 · 09/09/2021 15:31

Lots of food for thought here! Thank you everyone!

@BlueChampagne
I am also quite liking the idea of siblings called Ozzy and Ziggy!! (Even though this is my firstBlush)

@Elisemum
Interestingly, Robert is on my list at the beginning of the post! I think I mean more that I wouldn’t want them to be one of four children in their class with the same name

She literally has Robert on her list Grin

Jasper reminds me of Jasper the Rasper, which was something to do with farting.
Ziggy, it’s a pet’s name to me.
Bertie is a no from me.
And Holden is a surname, so no.
I like Atticus and Vinnie.

Velveteena · 09/09/2021 15:46

I don't mind Holden but it's one of those names that I (perhaps incorrectly) suspect people choose because they think it makes them seem well-read, even though Catcher in the Rye is a book most people read as teens. A bit like when Victoria Beckham said she'd named her daughter Harper because To Kill A Mockingbird was her favourite book, even though she'd previously said she'd never read a book in her life Grin

Jasper or Robert, don't like the others.

Ziggy is a dog's name/nick name.
