Middle name help - boy

We don't know what we are having.

We have picked a girls name but are really struggling with a boys name.

The two potential boy names so far are
Sam
Rowan

Can anyone recommend any nice middle names that would have a nice flow with either of the first name choices?

I have a Samuel Peter

I'm finding it hard to think of a name behind Sam without it sounding clunky but Samuel James, Samuel Paul, Samuel David, I'm sure other biblical names would work as well.

Rowan Graham?

I can see why your struggling, any family names you can use?

Samuel Rowan sounds OK to, Sam Rowan makes Rowan sound like a surname.

I think Joseph sounds nice after both names

I didn't want the name Samuel - (uncle, grandad, great-grandad). I was trying to avoid family names as I'd feel obliged that we needed a family name from each side. I do like the name Samuel though, but have always liked Sam as well.

Keep the suggestions coming - the right name will pop one of these days; I've got to sound out the names a bit haha.

It might be easier to switch names around so it's something like James Sam Smith.

The hardest thing I ever did was name my kids. It's the biggest thing you'll ever give them. Some people do change but most will stick with it or a variant of it.

Somehow things don't seem to fit brilliantly with Sam. I think Sam feels quite abrupt and that's why it hard to find a middle name.

Would something starting with a vowel or soft sound make it marginally easier? Sam Arthur or Sam Ulysses (maybe a little out there for some people) etc?

P.s. if going for an out there middle name do consider Tiberius or Pendragon. They are excellent names!

Use both - Rowan Samuel or Samuel Rowan.
