Robin or Robyn

Thinking of Robin as my mum’s maiden name was Robinson. But I prefer the Robyn spelling though. Is Robyn used for girls only? This would be for a girl but I just wondered

Robyn for a girl, I think.

PumpkinKlNG · 05/09/2021 23:28

Robyn but just because I wouldn’t want to use “bin”

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/09/2021 23:29

Yes, Robyn is the female version.

Babydust13 · 05/09/2021 23:44

Robyn for a girl Robin for a boy although I don't like it for boys

DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2021 00:17

Robyn is OK for a girl. I don't like Robin for either sex at all.

MrsGilly1 · 06/09/2021 11:52

Robyn X

Tee20x · 06/09/2021 11:58

Robyn

WhoppingBigBackside · 06/09/2021 12:56

Robin. I know several men called Robin and they all spell it with an I. Robyn is for girls.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 06/09/2021 13:00

Robyn is lovely. And a nice gesture..

Synchrony · 07/09/2021 14:26

I think of Robin as unisex but Robyn only for girls. I prefer Robin.

AmelieLovesAutumn · 07/09/2021 14:29

It used to be y for girls and i for boys. I know a fair few girls with the i spelling now. I much prefer it myself and don't like the name for a boy, either way, but would use i if I did

DCINightingale · 07/09/2021 14:31

I prefer the Robin spelling over Robyn for a girl. Lovely name. If it had gone with our surname we would have picked it for our DD as it was by far my favourite

GreyhoundG1rl · 07/09/2021 14:33

Robin is the male spelling, why add confusion when you don't have to?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/09/2021 16:24

I much prefer Robin - for both sexes, it just feels more classic and has that tranquil, nature vibe as it reminds me of the bird. Robyn (although more popular again now) has a bit of a 70's/80's vibe to me and looks misspelt imo.

Psychonabike · 07/09/2021 16:26

I have a girl Robin. Go with what you prefer. Robyn is a relatively new spelling. Robin is unisex.

Theoldwoman · 09/09/2021 12:17

Robyn is for girls
Robin is the boys spelling.

LouLion · 09/09/2021 19:17

I've only ever seen Robyn used for girls, but Robin is unisex. Honestly, I prefer Robin for a girl - Robyn always looks a bit like a made up spelling and takes away from the nice naturey vibe.

CormoranStrike · 09/09/2021 21:16

Robyn for a girl, Robin for a boy, both gorgeous names.

Aspergallus · 13/09/2021 17:04

@LouLion

"Robyn always looks a bit like a made up spelling and takes away from the nice naturey vibe."

Totally agree!

JaninaDuszejko · 13/09/2021 17:14

Robin is lovely and suitable for men or women. Robyn is a (probably American) mispelling, like the dreadful Rachael or Kathryn, please don't use it.
