Vivia? Or other names with nn Vivi

Would you consider Vivia as a nice name for a girl? Vivian/Vivien is out as they are masculine names in France (DH is half French), and can't use Vivienne or Viviana due to pronounciation issues.

The nn Vivi is so meaningful to us I really want to use it but I'm really struggling with finding a longer name for Vivi. Violet also not good as apparantely too close to the word rape in French..

Thanks for help!

Vivicia, Vivienne?

CargoBobbie · 05/09/2021 21:47

My DD is known as Vivi. Short for Genevieve 😊

Elouera · 05/09/2021 21:47

Violetta (is that still like the word for rape in French?)

Verda

Yika · 05/09/2021 21:50

Violaine is a lovely French name.

I dont like Vivia; I think plain Vivi would be better.

Standrewsschool · 05/09/2021 21:54

Aveline
Viviette
Veronica

Thanks everyone. DH thinks Vivi is not really a name for a grown up but I'm trying to tell him that the world where she grows up in is going to be filled with short nickname names. But of course I would also prefer a longer name on birth certificate.

I absolutely adore Genevieve but we already have one in the family - not called Vivi though luckily

I know a Fiona, where Fifi became Vivi.

BikeRunSki · 06/09/2021 07:13

Eve/Evie
Olivia
Sylvia/Sylvie

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 06/09/2021 07:14

Vivia sounds like a health insurance company.

PearlyRising · 06/09/2021 08:15

Oh yeh Fiona Fifi is nicer somehow 3ven tho i prefer Vivien to Fiona

Frazzled2207 · 06/09/2021 08:17

I know a Genevieve nn Vivi
Personally not keen on vivi but Genevieve was top of our girls list (had boys)- her nn would have been Evie

I agree with your dh here. I don’t think the world will be full of “short nickname names” in the future

If the Genevieve in the family is not a vivi and you will call her vivi I think that’s possibly a goer?
Genevieve is absolutely fab in french

Farmer98755 · 06/09/2021 14:43

I love Vivi on its own and really love Vivianna as a name! Vivia has actually grown on me the more i read this thread!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/09/2021 16:13

I think you can use any V first name or one with a prominent "Vee" sound (maybe even with/without a V middle name too) and use Vivi as a nn. So Valerie/Valeria, Veronica, Vaia, Victoria/Vita, Verity, Viola ... or even Genevieve or Livia, Sylvia etc - there's lots of pretty options. I must admit Vivia looks like a recent invented to me though, so I'm not keen on that.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/09/2021 16:14

Sorry, should say "recent invention".

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/09/2021 16:16

Although just had a search and realised it's apparently an Italian variation of Vivian (so shows what I know Blush!)

mocktail · 06/09/2021 16:17

I like the suggestion of Sylvie.

MerryMarigold · 06/09/2021 16:21

Aviva already is an insurance company!

I'm not sure of the pronunciation issues with Vivienne. In what country? Spain might struggle but even more with Vivi (which would be Bibi).

jackstini · 06/09/2021 16:33

Aviana
Evelyn
Vianne/
Octavia

SageRosemary · 06/09/2021 16:47

Aviva is an insurance company that you will find between Allianz and Axa in the Golden Pages

Vianne is nice, from the novel Chocolat and sequels.

Victoria, maybe

thebeatingofthedrums · 06/09/2021 16:59

How are you planning on pronouncing Vivi?

"Vivvy" (English) or "Veevee" (French)?

thebeatingofthedrums · 06/09/2021 17:00

@mocktail

I like the suggestion of Sylvie.
I like Sylvie as well - it's easily pronounceable in both languages.
someonesomewhere7 · 06/09/2021 17:17

Vivia sounds a little too made up for my taste.

Victoria
Vilma
Violeta/Violette
Ivette
Evita
Livia
Lavinia
Octavia
