One of my all time favourites (currently ttc baby 3).

Is it about to have a popularity explosion because Perri Edwards named her baby Axel? Not sure how I feel about it being trendy but I do really love it - big Guns n Roses fan but prefer this spelling.

Alternative suggestions welcome too :)

It's been rising slowly since around 2013 but I don't think it will rise dramatically in popularity just because of Perri.

On a side note, I think there will be a shift away from A names in the next few years. As it seems like almost every other boy has a name starting with the letter. Arlo, Albie, Alfie, Archie, Arthur etc.

I agree that Axel has been rising for a few years now (here’s the graph if you’re interested). I’ve heard it a lot in name communities both here and in the US. It’s similar enough to the very popular Alex to feel familiar, but with a fresh take on it. X is also a trendy letter at the moment so that will be helping its rise also.

I love this name, it always makes me think of The Middle.

I always think of Axel Scheffler! (Not a bad association though). I've also never heard of Perri Edwards.

I like it! I actually know someone who has a teenage son called this - all her children have rather unusual names. The only thing that would worry me about it is I bet a lot of people would misread it as Alex (which I also like but it's a very different name) or assume it was a typo.

Axl Rose's real name is William iirc. That's another nice name!

Friends 6yr old is called Axel. His surname makes him sound like a destination on a bus trip .

I've never understood the appeal personally. I think it has a harsh and unpleasant sound to it.

I like it añd reminds me now of Axel shaffer.

But when I first heard of a child being called this I did asssume "car part."

It says on Wikipedia that she’s Duffy’s daughter. It might be wrong, but I don’t see why she can’t be in Little Mix and be Duffy’s daughter!

I think her mums surname is Duffy rather than her being the singer Duffy. Duffy wouldn't be old enough anyways.
