Alex and Iris?

I don’t know if it’s just me overthinking it, but do Alex and Iris sound too similar (for b/g twins)? Or work together well? I’m imagining shouting them across the playground and the sounds seem the same Confused.

Any thoughts/alternatives welcome too.

I don't think they sound too similar. However, for me they bleed into each other, and it doesn't sound like you're saying two seperate names. Perhaps because there are too many vowels?

If I shout the names in my head they do sound a bit similar 🤣 but I also have boy/girl twins and their names are 3 syllables each which takes a while to get out 🤣

We’re also wondering about Anna for a girl, but a bit less keen on it at the mo.

I’m wondering if it’ll be a non-issue because Alex is likely to have some other nn of Alexander, but still.

They sound fine - not too similar.

Bit hard to say though - what about Oscar and Iris, Caspar and Iris

Sounds a perfect pair of names to me - similar in feel but not in sound.

I think Alex and Iris go really nicely together. Anna is nice enough but seems a bit plain compared to Iris.

@TatianaBis I love both those names but we have a few (self-imposed) constraints on names that make it a bit tricky.

  • Need something that vaguely works in Eastern European/ Russian languages and ideally also Old Testament/Hebrew
  • It’s a pregnancy following a loss, where the baby would have had a name from Greek mythology - so we’d like to somehow gesture towards that. Proving difficult though!

In that case Alex is ideal. I might spell it Aleks.

Also really like Dimitri (from Demeter) and Iris.

Would Alex and Isla work for you? They seem to flow better.

Lockdownpudding · 04/09/2021 21:28

Big like from me!

They are both nice names, but quite similar and also v popular (if that bothers you). I think hitting Ancient Greek and Hebrew refs might be quite hard… Sophia, Eva, Theodora, Anna for girls - and yeah Alexander for boys I guess - Sasha or Alec would be a slightly more unusual nn than Alex

… Christina / Christophe/r might work for one of them -
