Cecily on a boy?

So my wife really likes Cecily for a boy (usually pronounced Sess-ill-lee, but comes out more like Sess-lee when talking fast).

I love the name Cecily, but I don't know about it for a boy. We both don't really like Cecil. We do like traditionally girl names on boys, though.

I just am not completely sold. What do you think? Can you help me love it?

It would be awful as a boys name. I had a great uncle Cecil and I had a friend at school Cecily it is very much a feminine name. There are other choices. Why do you like traditionally girls names on boys?
So many lovely names to chose from but if your that keen on Uni sex names what about Taylor, Tyler, Rowan, Ashley, Jayden, Charlie, Frankie,Sam etc.

I went to school with a guy called Stacey. First year in high school he couldn't find his allocated locker - it was in the girls change rooms.

Don't remember him being teased but would think he was to an extent.

I know a boy named Willow and another boy called Stacey. The usual response from adults is pity for the child.

I did meet a woman by the name of Kevin. Caused no end of confusion. One can only imagine the issues she had growing up. She was late 50s when I met her.

Why do you want to set your child something socially to over come? Why purposefully give them an unnecessary challenge.

Yeah, I know it's really feminine. She said it's fairly uncommon, at least where we live, which I'd say is true, the only Cecily I know is Cecily Strong from SNL, so most people wouldn't immediately know it was a girl name

It isn’t really feminine. It is a feminine name and of course people would know it is a girls name why would you think otherwise?
Even if people don’t know who Cecily Strong is they know that Cecily is a girls name and the boys version is Cecil

@Elisemum Kevin’s dad, Kevin, wanted a son very much. He wanted a child named after himself so insisted on Kevin for heir only child, a daughter. She has a very traditional Christian female middle name as her mum had hoped they could eventually use that it no, her dad insisted on Kevin. I wish I could tell you so you could see her on FB but I think that is unfair. She’s from a southern state in USA.

I genuinely hope this is some kind of joke? Are you bored on a Saturday night and had one pint too many? Or are you really serious? As others suggested why don’t you change your own name to Cecily? Or Rebecca? Or perhaps Lilly? All great names for a man don’t you think? 😂

We discovered that in one branch of my family Lilly was a common middle name for the boys! It was used frequently until the mid C20th but we never found its origins - we assume a surname somewhere.

However, that doesn’t make Cecily an acceptable name for a boy.

OP are you in a French speaking country?
I know of girls names being mixed in with boys there, that is pretty much just marie. Or maybe Spanish - they often adopt a family girls name somewhere in the mix.

I knew a lot of Cecils in France, fairly common there, not a traditionally old man's name like in the UK (though probably just about to become popular based on current trend to ressurect older names).

Please don't do this if you are in the UK. Listen to Johnny Cash, a boy named Sue! Your DS would have to be a big character with strong fists to cope with this.
