What are your thoughts on the name Rupert?
Be honest. I don't know why but I love this name, it's the only name that to me is both unique and timeless and goes well with Arthur. ( the same feel?)

I know there is the Rupert the bear connection , but I don't really mind that.

What are your thoughts?

I've always thought it a bit 'wet'.

Mamascoven · 31/08/2021 20:29

Love it. Never really thought of Rupert the bear tbh. It always reminds me of Rupert Grint from Harry Potter!

NigellaSeed · 31/08/2021 20:31

It's posh to me, but It's nice. Didn't make me think of the bear.

sjxoxo · 31/08/2021 20:32

I love it too! I wanted this but my DH has vetoed it. I think it’s classic, not over used, works for all ages. Roo/Ru is a v cute nickname too xo

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 31/08/2021 20:33

I think of Rupert Penry Jones, who looks rather lovely to me.

Sunshine1235 · 31/08/2021 20:33

Love it

Ikeameatballs · 31/08/2021 20:33

I like it.

Classica · 31/08/2021 20:33

It's a marmite name that people either love or hate. People are rarely ambivalent about Rupert.

I personally think Arthur and Rupert have quite different vibes, although it's all subjective. With Arthur I picture a working class man from the 1930s whereas Rupert, well it's very posh (and to me a bit weedy). I'd be fine shouting Arthur's name across a park but I'd cringe a bit shouting out for Rupert. But that's my hang-up! Grin

Mommybunny · 31/08/2021 20:36

Posh posh posh. Now I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, but then I’m American and presumed to be clueless about the British class system so people with chips on their shoulders would generally forgive me for being relaxed about that name. No association whatsoever with a bear, but see above.

HoldingTheDoor · 31/08/2021 20:36

It's such a dreadful wet name.

TattySlippers · 31/08/2021 20:40

Personally, I wouldn’t name a baby Rupert but if you love the name go for it. I’m positive that not everyone will love my dc names. That’s fine

Cotswoldmama · 31/08/2021 20:42

Love it, I don't think it's wet at all I picture a slightly posh rugby player.

Miliao · 31/08/2021 20:51

I really like the name, was going to use it but had a girl. Be aware that it’s pretty popular at the moment, there are three in my baby class and there are only 15 babies!!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/08/2021 20:54

Love it.

glw0408 · 31/08/2021 20:58

@Classica

I know what you mean, this was why it worried me a bit ( hence the post). Like is it worth putting up with the raised eye brows half the time .. but then the other half of me just absolutely loves the name, so much so that I shouldn't care what others think!!

My DH loves it too, which is a bonus !

Classica · 31/08/2021 21:00

If you both love it you should go for it. Pointless worrying if randomers you might come across don't like your child's name Smile

glw0408 · 31/08/2021 21:01

@Miliao
Oh really? Where do you live?

In Wales UK I've only overheard it once whilst out and about and absolutely fell in love with it, perhaps it's going to become more popular.

@sjxoxo

Ah I'm glad you loved it as much as me! My DH loves it (rare), but he too likes names that aren't overused. Little Roo will most likely be the nickname which I think is absolutely adorable.

I think I need to pluck up the courage and just go for it !! :)

I think it's a lovely name. We considered it for DS, but eventually we chose... Arthur.

Seems like we have a similar taste in names OP Grin

DramaAlpaca · 31/08/2021 21:06

I really don't like Rupert, but it does go nicely with Arthur (which I like very much).

glw0408 · 31/08/2021 21:06

@HoldingTheDoor

Thanks for your honesty!

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'wet name' , a few people have used this term , and I just don't get it- please explain :) !

Unsure1983 · 31/08/2021 21:10

I love Rupert but in the end I think I will go with Robert if I have a boy. Less marmite.

HoldingTheDoor · 31/08/2021 21:13

By wet, I mean, weak, twee, unappealing and devoid of charm. I imagine a Rupert having a handshake like a dead fish. It's not a name I could imagine ever shouting in the throes of passion. Of course, you're naming your child, not a husband so that isn't an issue,

Girls names can be wet too btw before anyone gets on my back about that.

It's definitely becoming more popular for some unknown reason.

HoldingTheDoor · 31/08/2021 21:16

Arthur on the other hand feels like it has some character and strength to it.

avocadotofu · 31/08/2021 21:17

I love it!
