Indie for a boy

Dh and I are massively struggling with boys names, but both like Indie as in Indiana Jones, and it was also Dh's nickname from his dad who passed away last year.

I'm thinking though that it's more of a girls name as it sounds shortened for India? Opinions please!

@bigbabybum I wanted Indiana for a boy!!! X

Theworldisquiethere · 31/08/2021 09:40

I love it! My son’s got a friend who is Indie short for Indiana

ElspethFlashman · 31/08/2021 09:40

I know an Indy who is a boy. Not short for anything as far as I know.

I'm not really keen on naming kids after film/TV characters, it's a bit "Khaleesi" for me, but hey, at least it's a cute name.

bigbabybum · 31/08/2021 09:42

Haha @ElspethFlashman , I know what you mean!

@AnxiousAnnie86 yay, what did you go for in the end or did you have a girl?

I would think Indy rather than Indie. The latter is a music genre rather than a name to me.

Indiana is a great name.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 31/08/2021 09:45

@bigbabybum we had a little girl ten weeks ago... We called her Guinevere, (Guinny) I love names from stories or tales. Like Gulliver I loved that too! X

bigbabybum · 31/08/2021 09:50

Ahh Indy is much better!

I would do Indy!

SethWho · 31/08/2021 09:54

I know an Iain Daniel know as Indy

Mochudubh · 31/08/2021 10:34

When Sean Connery says "We named the dog Indiana", it's true. Indiana was the name of George Lucas's husky at the time.

For a child I think I'd go with the full thing and shorten it to Indy as a nickname.

HoldingTheDoor · 31/08/2021 10:39

It's a cute nickname but a bad first name and Indiana is even worse. Perhaps it'd work as a middle name but I think I'd get tired of Indiana Jones jokes and it's also the name of one of a notoriously dull State.

elvis4nuts · 31/08/2021 10:45

Love it 😍

bigbabybum · 31/08/2021 11:31

I don't really like Indiana in full, it would have to be Indy

sorryforswearing · 31/08/2021 11:34

Prefer spelling it Indie rather than Indy.

Cbeebiesrehab · 31/08/2021 12:04

I think Indy looks more masculine than Indie for some reason. I like Indy for a boy.

Pemba · 31/08/2021 12:26

Not a real name IMO.

4545454nc · 31/08/2021 13:51

sorry not keen, there was a thread in last couple of days about this for a girl, look at the responses as they apply to both (I think there was one comment about Indiana).

bigbabybum · 31/08/2021 14:21

I know Joe Wicks called his daughter Indie which makes me a bit hesitant.

@Pemba agree it definitely needs to be a proper name shortened to Indy, but Indiana is a no go.

Back to the drawing board

Indigo?

Shakirasma · 31/08/2021 14:32

I know a 5 year old boy Indiana, and a 17 year old girl Indianna.

It's a great name and it suits them both. Both are shortened to Indy.

Firebird83 · 31/08/2021 22:10

Indy looks better for a boy.

Givemethatknife · 31/08/2021 22:23

Grand as a nn, stupid as a full name.

Innes is a nice Scottish boys name that would work, although I do have a love of Indiana J. Deffo Indy spelling
