I went to school with an Indigo in the 90s. It didnt really seem like an odd name to me back then, but I think children are more accepting of unusual names as they don't have the level of context adults do to make judgements. I still think it's nice, and most people these days won't say anything or be rude about it. I slightly prefer Indie as a full name over Indigo, though.

Heruka · 29/08/2021 08:58

Not for me, neither sound like names.

Almostwelsh · 29/08/2021 09:01

Indigo is a name used for a type of personality that makes a child a bit special in a new age philosophy. I would check the possible connotations and see if you're ok with that before you use it.

Eloisedublin123 · 29/08/2021 09:04

Here in Dublin “ Indie“ is becoming short for independent retailers ie Use your local indie agent don’t buy from amazon!

MrsBertBibby · 29/08/2021 09:09

According to Tober and Carroll, indigo children may function poorly in conventional schools due to their rejection of rigid authority, their being smarter or more spiritually mature than their teachers, and their lack of response to guilt-, fear- or manipulation-based discipline.

AKA brats.

NautaOcts · 29/08/2021 09:10

It’s not for me

I would probably assume Indie is for India which I’m not a fan of, just seems to grate a bit when it’s normally white middle class people calling their child that.

Amber I love

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 29/08/2021 09:14

Indie is getting crazy popular. Amber is nicer.

daisypond · 29/08/2021 09:16

I don’t like Indie at all. I would hate for it to be thought it was short for India.

jellybe · 29/08/2021 09:26

I love it! It was on our list for DD.

User8765461 · 29/08/2021 10:45

There is a term 'indigo child' that has connotations that you might not want to impose your DC. My vague recollection is a child that is allowed to run wild without restrictions and perhaps has is seen to have some kind of special aura? Idk, best look into it before calling your DC Indigo.
There is also Inigo, which is similar.

NoWhey · 29/08/2021 10:58

Love it. Prefer Indiana.

Or Ember.

This. I’d expect siblings Bodhi, River and Ember.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 29/08/2021 14:25

I really like it! It’s unusual without being silly. Indie is super cute, I would personally use India nn Indie, but Indigo is perfectly fine.

Cbeebiesrehab · 29/08/2021 20:18

I like Indigo. It’s not that out there, Indie is very mainstream now.
Amber feels a bit 90s to me sorry.

coffeepleeease · 29/08/2021 20:22

I think Indigo is a really nice name

IckleBear · 30/08/2021 03:51

I like Indie but Indigo is too much.
Amber is a sort of meh name to me.

Whywhenwhat · 30/08/2021 04:45

I love Indiana nn Indie and not so keen on Indigo.
Really dislike Amber.

Seanchailleach · 30/08/2021 06:58

I love the name Indigo.
I hadn't heard of the New Age childrearing philosophy.

longerevenings · 30/08/2021 13:11

Indiana is an underwhelming state.
It has very conservative politics, Mike Pence was the Governor.
I wouldn't choose to name my dd after it.

Indigo seems preferable.

manhattenrain · 30/08/2021 19:32

Indiana is quite popular in Australia.

alwayswrighty · 30/08/2021 19:36

I love Indigo as a name. Amber not so much, but I know a lazy entitled Amber

WaitinginVain · 30/08/2021 19:53

Not keen on either Indigo or Indie but love Amber.

batmanladybird · 30/08/2021 19:58

I know one

He is a nob with pretentious parents

MimiDaisy11 · 30/08/2021 20:04

Indie is one of those names I think sounds cool but I wouldn't be brave enough to use it myself. I think Indigo sounds very hippy.
I do like Amber. Some say it's dated but I don't think it was ever that popular to be stuck to a specific time period.
