flower / colour name combinations - yay or nay?

I started another thread but I wanted to see the general consensus for whether these name combos are naff or lovely...

Jasmine Lily
Ruby Lily
Scarlett Lily
Violet Lily

I am really in two minds as to whether they are too cutsey / twee, or whether I actually love them. DH loves them all.

What do you think?

My new granddaughter has a flower and color name combination so They obviously get the thumbs up from me.

I wouldn't recommend Lily Ruby though.
Jasmine Lily is 2 flowers not a colour and a flower.
Lily Scarlett sounds better than Scarlett Lily
I also prefer the flow of Lily Violet to Violet Lily.

Jasmine Lily and Violet Lily are lovely.

I think the double 'ee' endings in Ruby Lily doesn't quite sound right but it's not hugely jarring.

Ultimately though you're not going to be using both names together that often so just go for the two you love. None of the names I think are overly 'cutesy' but even if they were, your DD would make them her own :)

Awwlookatmybabyspider - ahhh congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter Flowers and thank you for replying.

For various reasons we aren't sure about having Lily as a first name -but we might consider it. I agree it flows better with some of the combinations

Yes I realised Jasmine Lily was a flower/flower combination - just forgot/CBA to put it in the title or description!! Grin

TrashKitten10 - yes I see what you mean about the 'ee' endings - I knew there was something not quite right but didn't put my finger on why, so thank you

Jasmine Lily I think is fine - Jasmine is lovely, less used and a bit punchier than many of the flower names

The others are a bit odd because they are also colours - eg Scarlett or Ruby Lily sounds like you are referring to a red lily

Thanks JizzyJeff. Congratulations to you too

Amz6219 · 27/08/2021 12:24

I think they're all lovely

Jizzyjeff · 27/08/2021 12:25

Scarlett or Ruby Lily sounds like you are referring to a red lily - that's what I meant about whether it was a bit naff. I mean I really like the combinations of colour and flower but wanted to see what others thought

Hey, I have a flower and colour name combo :) So I am going to say, Not Naff, haha!
There's lots of flowers and colours names. I like all the ones you've listed.

Jizzyjeff · 27/08/2021 12:37

Youcunnyfunt - good to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak Grin

Love your username too :)

I like all the names you’ve listed but I’m not keen on combining nature/colour names for first and middle. It just seems like overkill to me or too discriptive, but obviously it’s up to you. I’d go for something like Scarlett Evelyn or Ruby Florence. Good luck.

LouLucky · 27/08/2021 20:24

I feel like it's a bit much tbh. All nice names, but my favourite is Violet - very classic. I would pair with something like Phoebe, Imogen, Eleanor, or maybe a non-floral name name like Rowan, Hazel, Fern,.

PlainJane1000 · 28/08/2021 00:24

None of them are too twee. For some reason if the middle name had been Rose I feel like they would have been worse although the scenario is exactly the same!
I think that we can over obsess with middle names and realise later that they are very rarely used so it didn't matter as much as we thought. I'd pick the first name that you love most and flows best with your surname and go with Lily in the middle if that is the only option you are considering.
