I love it. I also like Maeve. Not what you are asking I know but both are lovely names to me. 🌸

Melliferous · 26/08/2021 21:50

I've never come across it before. Familiar with Maeve alright but not this. What's its origin?

Melliferous · 26/08/2021 21:51

Tahitian google says!

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2021 21:52

I prefer Maeve, but Maeva is quite pretty too.

AphroditeGoddessOfLove · 26/08/2021 21:52

I know a French girl called Mäeva (spelt with the accent) and I love it. Prefer it to Maeve although both are nice and would consider it for my next.

IWantToBeNynaeve · 26/08/2021 21:53

I've never heard of it, it sounds like a misspelling of Maeve. Not a fan tbh.

Spexy · 26/08/2021 21:54

Love it ❤️ I think it's beautiful

LaChatte · 26/08/2021 21:55

How is it pronounced in English? Here (France) it's ma eh va , very pretty name.

ChickpeaCrunch · 26/08/2021 21:56

Pronounced May-Va?

If so it's beautiful

Melliferous · 26/08/2021 21:58

I think French names often lose a lot of their charm when said in an accent that isn't French.

PearlyBird · 26/08/2021 21:58

Oh is it French?

I dont like the look of it tbh

I prefer Maeve.

Or if you're in Ireland, Medbh

GoodnightGrandma · 26/08/2021 21:59

Prefer Maeve.

StrongCoffeAvalanche · 26/08/2021 22:02

Also interested to know pronunciation but if it's May-va I like it a lot. I do prefer Maeve but both nice

CLC91 · 26/08/2021 22:06

Thank you all so much , really appreciate all comments for and against :)
Yes pronounced May-va
It’s French, I prefer it to Maeve, think it has a bit more substance to it.
Some people think it’s odd and can’t pronounce it etc , but tbh it’s only similar to ‘Ava’

I love it - it's very high on my own list (and if I use it I'll entirely deny that I came across it via my secret habit of watching Made in Chelsea)

Haha! This is where I have heard it too. I also like the name. Maeva on MIC is a strong person who knows her own mind too so there are worse people to be linked with
Kitkat151 · 26/08/2021 22:25

I like maeve.... don’t like maeva

LouLucky · 26/08/2021 22:27

My first impression was that it looks a bit made up, or a misspelling of Maeve. But I do like it, it sounds pretty.

Viviennemary · 26/08/2021 22:27

Not keen but its seems a perfectly acceptable name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/08/2021 22:29

I think because Maeve is rapidly rising in popularity at the moment and that fact that Eva, Ava and May (as a middle) are so popular now too, some people may think Maeva looks invented or trendy if that matters. BUT it has a really lovely sound imo, so if that doesn't bother you, I say go for it!

Classica · 26/08/2021 22:32

I would say of the two Maeve has more substance as there seems to be more history behind it and Queen Maeve is such a massive figure in Irish mythology, but if you prefer a longer name I can see why the sound of Maeva might appeal more.

AugmentedToast · 26/08/2021 22:33

Lovely name, but I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it. Chances are also that your daughter will have her name misspelled more often than not. Not a problem as such, but might be worth thinking about (my name is Kathrin and I started making a list of the various misspellings of my name years ago - and the rare occasions when people spell it right Smile)

2mutsandsomebabies · 26/08/2021 22:35

French Maeva isn't pronounced May-va but Mah-ay-va. 3 syllables, its lovely but I imagine a childhood of everyone calling her Mayva, and the poor girl getting annoyed.

Classica · 26/08/2021 22:37

It's like Camille. Sounds so lovely when a French person says it, Cah-mee, and nice but not quite so lovely when an English person pronounces it cameel.

Germolenequeen · 26/08/2021 22:38

Made up name 🙄 Maeve/ Maidbh is the correct version and lovely
