Opinions on boys names

We don't like long versions of names so don't bother commenting that we should use Theodore or Edward or whatever. I get that that's the mumsnet way but it just isn't for us!

I would however appreciate your thoughts on...

James, Max and Abel all great - Abel the least common.
Ethan I always find blah, Kai I think is downmarket/grim - rest don’t really work as full names - Nathan would though.

I don't like Kai or Abel, not keen on Ted or Ethan but like all the others. I would probably choose Nate.

I don't like Kai. Not sure about Zack. Like the others.

Ted, James, Abel....all lovely. Theo I love but very popular in our area xx

I would discount Ted, Zack and Nate for the reason you mention. I find Max and James a bit dull. Abel feels very religious and I think it might be a bit confusing with the whole able / abel thing. Dislike Kai. Like Theo and Ethan.

We have a Ted, he is Edward, but we always call him Ted and I think it’s a lovely name even in its own right. From your list I also like James.

Lovely names...Zack is my favourite...was going to be dds name if she had been a boy.

Only one I really dislike is Kai

James is my all time favourite boys name!! Love 💙

Love James. Like pp, one of my all time favourites. I like Abel. I liked Abraham when I was expecting. Nate I prefer to Nathan, but not super keen and I don't really like the rest sorry.

Kai - My favourite on your list! I think this name would suit just about anyone at any age so you can't go wrong.

Max - I really like Max. Also a name that would suit any age.

James - I like it but I do feel it's a bit over used.

Abel - I quite like Abel! A very well known name but underused.

Zack & Ethan - Not my taste but still nice names.

Ted, Theo & Nate - Strongly dislike these three, sorry!

Max, James, Abel and Nate all good.

I'm not keen on Ted Zach or Nate for the reason you mentioned we aren't allowed to say.

I don't like Abel (I always think 'what if they aren't very able?')

I really don't like Kai

I have a Teddy (Theodore) and an Ethan so love Ted,Theo and Ethan from your list, also like Kai. I like the name meanings for Ted/Theo which is gift and Ethan which is firm, enduring and strong.

All ok except Kai
Kai is a naughty messer at school

Ted, Max and James are my favourites.

Kai, Abel and Ethan are my least favourite.

My choices in that order

Abel

I like Theo, Max, James, and Zack from your list. Especially Theo!

Of your choices I really like classic James. Ethan, Abel, and Kai aren't really my taste and I think the risk with some of the others is your DS could get annoyed having to explain "No - Nate, not Nathan/Nathaniel", "No - Ted, not Edward/Theodore" etc. But Max and Theo are popular enough as standalones they should escape that imo.

Ted and Theo are great names.
Max and James OK but loads of them.
I like Nate more than Nathan (Nathans and Kais are naughty in my teaching experience!)
Ethan I dislike. Not sure why. Feels too American for a British baby.
Zack is Ok but I would spell it Zac and it feels a bit 1990s.
Abel is actually quite interesting but I don't know if I would do it. It's Ted or Theo for me!

Out of your list. I like James only. I love James.
