Love this to honour a grandparent. Do you like it for a girl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lovely!

HoldingTheDoor · 24/08/2021 14:16

No. Perhaps as a middle name but it's very much a male name to me in spite of Drew Barrymore.

Givemethatknife · 24/08/2021 14:16

Makes me think Nancy Drew!

As a middle name yep, but as a first name no it’ll be annoying for her to have what is generally a boys’ name.

KirstenBlest · 24/08/2021 14:25

i know a girl Drew and it's fine. I also know a Drew short for Andrew.

Heruka · 24/08/2021 14:27

Yes I think of it as a boys name but obvs works for both, it’s nice.

KirstenBlest · 24/08/2021 14:57

The Drew I know's sibling has a unisex name that is one I'd think of as a girl's name. I get them mixed up.

I also know a couple called Chris and Alex and I get their names mixed up. They are not Christopher and Alexandra.

DramaAlpaca · 24/08/2021 19:07

No, not for a girl. I like it as a diminutive of Andrew.

scottishnames · 24/08/2021 20:29

Drew is short for Andrew, which literally means 'manly' or 'masculine' (= Greek 'andreios'). Whatever Hollywood actors do/say, it is, by meaning, a totally male name. I don't think most daughters would thank you for it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/08/2021 20:49

I know a baby girl called Drew. It’s not my favourite but I do think it’s quite cool. I don’t think it’s a common enough name to immediately think male or female if I saw it on a school register-as in I have only ever taught one Drew (male) and know of one female Drew (baby). It’s a bit like Eden to me-I’ve met both male and female so I no longer assume sex when I see it written.

mathanxiety · 24/08/2021 21:23

I like it.

It's far more likely to be identified as a girl's name than a boy's thanks to Drew Barrymore.

If the thumbs down here are too offputting, would you consider Dru, short for Drusilla?

LittleDoritt · 24/08/2021 22:03

I like it. I know a gorgeous, feisty Dru.

Velvetscrunchy · 28/08/2021 05:57

I absolutely love it. I love girls with boy names - I know a Blake and George.

Apeirogon · 28/08/2021 06:01

I think of it as a boy's name (short for Andrew).

LiveSimply · 28/08/2021 06:40

I love this! Beautiful name & has a personal meaning behind it for your family! Please please go for it :)
