Hello :)

Need some help with baby girl names please!
I'm 28 weeks, we have the following names so far, but wondered if there are any other similar names to suggest? We keep going back and fourth on which one is our favourite.

Also, your thoughts on each name please (not too mean 😂)

Current top 5 (no order):
Kate
Bethany
Sadie
Siobhan
Robyn

Kate - lovely classic name much prefer Kate to Katie
Bethany - nice
Sadie - not a fan
Siobhan - not a fan
Robyn - also lovely

A few others I like are:
Erin
Autumn
Ivy
Heidi
Rosa
Genevieve
Harriet
Marie

diddlediddle · 23/08/2021 05:44

All lovely except Siobhan which I find a bit ugly and will be annoying to spell. Prefer Robin but Robyn still ok. I'd probably choose Kate

luciasanta · 23/08/2021 05:47

Kate - bit boring
Bethany - LOVE
Sadie - sounds like sadistic
Siobhan - bit outdated
Robyn - LOVE

Really interesting names overall - I like your taste in names!

Marty13 · 23/08/2021 05:52

Kate - I don't love it for several reasons. First off, it sounds like a nickname rather than a full name. Secondly, lots of people may think Middleton. Thirdly, it's a bit too classic and boring for my taste.

Bethany - I don't hate it but it sounds a bit old-fashioned to my ear ?

Sadie - I do like this one. Not too popular, original, overall it's nice.

Siobhan - I like it but I think I prefer Sinead.

Robyn - I like it for a girl. I like unisex names and I like how the name sounds.

At the end of the day I'd probably use Robyn as first name and Sadie or Siobhan as middle name.

Kate -- hmm. Maybe go with Katherine/Kathryn/Katrina? Mind you, I'm prejudiced against Kate, because my generation is full of them and the boys I liked generally preferred the Kates to me, and those girls were always so bland. Envy OK, vent over.

Bethany -- looks and sounds pretty. Modern classic.

Sadie -- sad loser.

Siobhan -- growly, yet with a certain elegance.

Robyn -- upbeat and lively. Cool at any age.

Emma
Nina
Sasha
Marnie
Faye
Neve

I love your descriptions of these names 😊 So succinct and spot on!

Kate - pretty, but a bit plain
Bethany - really like
Sadie - not a fan
Siobhan - not a fan
Robyn - Love

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/08/2021 10:47

Kate - irrational dislike for this name. Probably because I know so many awful Katies!
Bethany - Ok. Prefer Beth as a stand-alone name.
Sadie - dislike. Can never understand how people call it a classic.
Siobhan - don’t like.
Robyn - It’s ok.

Would probably go with Bethany or Robyn.

Pollythecat15 · 23/08/2021 11:13

I really like Sadie, Kate and Bethany. (in that order I think).

I also like Clara and Rosanna.

Orangestarfish · 23/08/2021 11:32

Kate - it's fine. I think if you want to go down the pretty, classic but slightly dull road then Lucy and Alice are nicer. I really pike Katrina / Catriona. How about the Welsh Catrin? Maybe Kay is due a comeback??

Bethany - bit 90s, prefer Bethan or just Beth

Sadie - quite nice, again feels a bit 90s. Sara, Zara? Ada?

Siobhan - don't like

Robyn - like, nn Bobbie is sweet. Other less common nature names - Hazel, Rowan, Sylvia, Fern, Wren.

I'm a Sadie..

' Sad loser' is not how I would describe myself or how others would describe me.

And I am definitely not sadistic!!

🙄

I appreciate that name choices are subjective but blatant unkind Connotations about a particular name is really not nice.

Op.. I love your name choices and congratulations 💕

I'm so sorry if what I wrote offended you, it really wasn't my intention to offend anyone. I just meant that the name reminds me of that word, I think the OP specifically asked about people's opinions/connotations.
Asbusyasabee · 23/08/2021 18:29

Thank you all for your replies I really appreciate it - and lovely suggestions too, a couple stood out (I do have Harriet, Felicity and Neve already as potentials @Babydust13y @Ricekrispie22 @Theoldwoman, but husband not so keen) so will have a think about them!

@Orangestarfish I love Rowan but as a boys name, the nature route will be good to look down though.

Sorry when I asked about people's opinions on the names it was just whether which ones they'd prefered. The 'not too mean' comment was meant as no judging on my choices haha, but I can see how it might've been interpreted another way.

I really like Robyn.

Balonzette · 24/08/2021 13:17

Love Sadie and Robyn, hate Siobhan. Bethany is nice but dated. Kate is fine but meh.

Givemethatknife · 24/08/2021 13:34

Love Robin spelt straight
Love Kate if short for Katherine, and less pop than Robin right now

Bethany and Siobhan a bit lumpy..

whatausername · 24/08/2021 13:47

I know to some these names might verge on dated but I found your list rather refreshing. I vote for Kate as it's timeless. My least favourite is Sadie (it sounds sad & unhappy to my ears, daft I know). Ignore those who complain about having to spell a name. Siobhan is well-established outside Ireland and, even if it weren't, I'm sure people will cope.

Favourite to least favourite:
Kate
Robyn
Bethany
Siobhan
Sadie

Btw, I do find it odd for people to spell Niamh "Neve". I think when using a name so closely associated with a particular culture then that spelling ought to be honoured. Otherwise it looks, at best, uneducated and, at worst, very rude.
