Names dedicated to Keith, that aren't Keith

I want to decide on a baby boy name that honours my Dad who I lost at the start of this year. His name is Keith, but I am not a huge fan of Keith for a baby in 2021... Any ideas on a similar sounding name that still honours him but is a bit more modern?

I can’t see how any other name can substitute a name!!

Middle name

RatherBeRiding · 20/08/2021 16:45

Keir?

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2021 16:46

Kei

MrsWidgerysLodger · 20/08/2021 16:47

Apparently Keith means wood or forest so you could go for a name that means the same?

AndSoFinally · 20/08/2021 16:47

Use it as a middle name

wonderpants · 20/08/2021 16:47

Keifer
Keif
Kai
Keir
Leith

Or use it as a middle name?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/08/2021 16:48

Keth?

Lemonsyellow · 20/08/2021 16:48

I don’t think there are any. Just use Keith. It’s an old Scottish surname, so has lots of history behind it. It’s just a bit dated for today, but I do know a young one too.

Bimblybomeyelash · 20/08/2021 16:49

Maybe as a middle name? Or have your dads surname as a middle name?

spicetime · 20/08/2021 16:49

Some kind of forest based name?

Or do you want a name that sounds a bit like Keith?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/08/2021 16:50

I would either use Keith itself (maybe as a middle name) or just remember your father in another way. Using a name with a tenuous connection to someone's actual name because you really don't like their actual name doesn't honour anyone. It is actually like going out of your way to emphasise that you really REALLY don't like their actual name.

I like Keith as a middle name!

Triphazards · 20/08/2021 16:52

Richard.

namechangeuniq · 20/08/2021 16:53

Either Keir or have Keith as a middle name. Did your Dad have a middle name/nickname that you could use? Or a favorite singer etc to honor in an indirect name?

Floralnomad · 20/08/2021 16:54

Our sons middle name is Keith after my dad who had died a few years before he was born . I don’t think you can say you are using the name to honour someone if you then change the name .

NoNotYou · 20/08/2021 16:54

Queef?

FuckingFlumps · 20/08/2021 16:55

I'm sorry for your loss but I agree that if you want to honour him then I'd use his actual name, it's not really honouring him if you just pluck a random name that is very tenuously linked.

If you don't want it as a first name then I'd definitely use it as babies middle name. I'm sure your son will appreciate the sentiment of being named after your dad.

Welcometotheterrorzone · 20/08/2021 16:57

I disagree. I think a name that is a nod to another name is fine. The main thing is that when you hear the name is reminds you of their namesake. It doesn't matter that it's not the actual name.

DotDotDotDotDot · 20/08/2021 16:57

I love love the name Forrest for a boy, it’s one of my guilty pleasure names! I think it would be great as a middle name. Saying that though Keith would work well in the middle with most first names, as it’s one syllable. I think it’s lovely to honour your Dad in this way and I’m sorry for your recent loss. Good luck.

kitsilano19 · 20/08/2021 17:00

@TheYearOfSmallThings you have a very good point there....!! thanks!

But the OP says she can’t think of any substitute.

And rightfully so!

So it would be a random unrelated name chosen to avoid using Keith!

I’d go middle name
Or use one of your fathers middle names

AliceMcK · 20/08/2021 17:03

What is your family heritage? Could you use another version of Keith? We used that Gaelic version of Margaret for our DD.

Or you could use it as a middle name. We wanted to give our other DD a name in memory or my DF, it was a name he loved and although I liked it I wasn’t keen on it as a first name so used it as a middle name.

DeadButDelicious · 20/08/2021 17:13

I'd use it as a middle name. Smile

Happenchance · 20/08/2021 17:40

Heath?

Silas has a similar meaning.

Floralnomad · 20/08/2021 18:07

It’s a bit like Trotter always calling Rodney Dave in Only Fools , you can imagine the conversation with little baby x when he’s 6 , we named you Silas / Leith / Heath after your grandad who’s name was Keith .
