Sibling for India and Rafferty

Looking for inspiration for a name which goes well with India and Rafferty? Don’t know what we are having. Quite like Bodhi for a boy but nothing really shouting out to us in the way of girls names. Georgia maybe possibly?!

Isis - for realz? 😱

Changechangychange · 12/08/2021 21:47

Shoshana is a Jewish name. Origin of names like Susan, Suzanne and Susannah. Not out there at all.

Changechangychange · 12/08/2021 21:47

@Germolenequeen

Isis - for realz? 😱
The goddess, not the terror group. I know several.
TatianaBis · 12/08/2021 21:57

Balonz was funny. So was Garyanne.

TatianaBis · 12/08/2021 21:58

I know an Isis - Greek goddess, before terrorist group appeared.

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 21:59

I know an Isis - Greek goddess, before terrorist group appeared.

I know the origin of the name but the thing is unfortunately the terrorist group did appear

Micah is Biblical and ranked 271st, in England and Wales, in 2019. Hardly a wild suggestion. I like it anyway.

Puffalicious · 12/08/2021 22:23

Well from this, I can concur that England and Wales are a FAR cry from Scotland. Micah is 217th? What?! Theodosia? Lordy.

Agree completely with Demon

PP I'm well aware Soshana is Jewish but I've never come across anyone with this name in our substantial Jewish community. My friend is Jewish, a Sarah, with Ben and Samuel as her DC. Shoshana is out there, in that it's very unusual.

TatianaBis · 12/08/2021 22:24

Is Isis expected to change her name?

Puffalicious · 12/08/2021 22:25

Sorry Dillon not Demon.

I hope you find something you like soon, op. Flowers

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 22:42

Is Isis expected to change her name?

Of course not but going forward to avoid any negative connotations maybe the name could be avoided - a bit like Adolf is 🤔

adrianmolesmole · 12/08/2021 22:50

Bodhi is appalling. Absolute man-bun of a name

GrinGrinGrin That's the funniest thing I've read recently!

"Artemisia, Artemisia, be darhling and pick up some pomegranate seeds and a fair trade mango from Waitrose"

The only way to break free from the class prison is to think and act as if it doesn't exist. The class system only exists because it is maintained by constant self-policing on the part of all of its victims.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/08/2021 23:07

Imagine if someone was mocking a ‘working class’ name in the way some people are mocking names on here. There would be uproar.

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 23:17

No one is mocking any "class" of name just giving opinions on what they perceive as ridiculous or potentially unsuitable 🤷‍♀️

mathanxiety · 12/08/2021 23:18

Here are examples of people who are stupid, ignorant, and/or hard of hearing from the guardian article, which with one or two exceptions describes the responses of stupid, hard of hearing, and ignorant responses to names:

hefty and tease-worthy moniker

  • This is all about appeasing other people, handling their insecurities for them.
And, also for any inverse snobbery from others at having called our child such an indulgent name
  • Ditto.

I realised the name is always associated with bad characters in films and TV too – such as gang members. When my son was a boy there was a teacher perception that he’d be someone to watch, just because he was called Scott.

  • That's a pretty stupid teacher, and it's very troubling that a child was judged in advance.

...people think it’s his surname, no one can spell it

  • Seriously, how hard is it to spell Rafferty? It obeys all the phonics rules.
...and when I introduce him to people they always ask me to repeat the name.
  • Hard of hearing, or just stuck in their own little world?

...we needed a name that would work in both English and French. We settled on Cléo (pronounced Clay-o) which is also a nod to my Egyptian heritage. Unfortunately, we have since found that people constantly mishear it as Claire and when corrected still pronounce it as Cleo...

  • Stupid, hard of hearing...

...we hadn’t taken into account other people not being familiar with it...

  • Other people's ignorance, in other words.
One of the midwives called her “Asterix” and her name is often misheard as Ashley and Ashton
  • Hard of hearing? Ignorant? Astrid isn't an odd or weird name unless you rarely read and don't get out much.

"Artemisia, Artemisia, be darhling and pick up some pomegranate seeds and a fair trade mango from Waitrose"

@Germolenequeen, this ^^ is mockery.

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 23:20

You've cherry picked those to suit your own argument 🙄

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/08/2021 23:20

Refer to the ‘Waitrose’ comment above.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/08/2021 23:21

Sorry that was for @Germolenequeen

DillonPanthersTexas · 12/08/2021 23:21

What would be a working class name?

I have no issues mocking all the Khaleesi's,
hyphenated Molly-Mai's etc or any girl's name with a double 'ee' at the end. Throw into the mix phonetically spelt Irish names.

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 23:22

@Germolenequeen, this ^^ is mockery.

@mathanxiety

But no "class" is mentioned

TatianaBis · 12/08/2021 23:23

Some people are ‘achingly middle class’, so what?

Who wants to live their life by MN’s rigid class rules? Those at the top apparently get the best deal as they’re allowed to call their kids whatever they like. Others have to stay in their lane.

Of the list I know an Aurelia, Nova, Cosima, Athena, Callista, Sibylla, Zinnia, Allegra, Phineas, Heloise, 2 Hesters…
