I love this name and all the meanings in different cultures, what comes to mind when you hear the name Mina?

@spongedod potato, potata!

Cotswoldmama · 09/08/2021 20:25

I like it but I would think it was pronounced to rhyme with dinner!

schoolsoutforever · 09/08/2021 20:30

Love it. Dracula. Partly why I love it.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 09/08/2021 20:32

I always think it is helpful to think of a name as an adult's name rather than a "baby name" or "girl's name".

Catlover77 · 09/08/2021 20:34

I quite like it.
Though I automatically thought of the murderer in Emmerdale.

vdbfamily · 09/08/2021 20:38

A friend of mine has just married a man called Mina. He is Egyptian.

user1471523870 · 09/08/2021 20:42

I like it. She's a very famous Italian singer from the 70s.

TonkinLenkicks · 09/08/2021 21:01

Still game

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 09/08/2021 21:12

I have a Mina and would totally say go for it! We generally call her Minnie (or Min) but I like the fact that as she gets older she can choose to be called Mina again if she wants. We were inspired by the book Dracula but it has a lot of great meanings in different languages (including love, blue skies and harbour) and is pronounceable all over the world. It’s an unusual name (don’t know any others) without being totally wacky. One old lady once made the “meaner” connection (which tbh we hadn’t really thought of) but no one since then and it completely hasn’t bothered me!

Thought of the mirena coil

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/08/2021 21:26

Mina (Wilhelmina) Murray - Victorian elegance. Lovely.

Eirefairy · 09/08/2021 21:29

I knew a lady named Mina. She was absolutely beautiful and had such a strong and brave personality. Based on that I'd say I love the name

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 09/08/2021 21:37

Gorgeous name

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/08/2021 21:41

One of my favourite names

Shouldbedoing · 09/08/2021 21:43

Dracula

Or short for Wilhelmina

transformandriseup · 09/08/2021 21:46

Since reading Dracula I have always wanted to use this name but DH has disagreed so far Sad

LadyGAgain · 09/08/2021 21:48

Wasn't Dracula said like 'Minor' and Mina can be said to rhyme with Lina and Dina. So depends on how to say it to how people react to it I guess.

whatmattersisthatyoulove · 10/08/2021 12:02

The lovely 8 year old Mina I know pronounces it to rhyme with winner. I think it's very pretty.

HPLikecraft · 10/08/2021 14:53

Wasn't Dracula said like 'Minor'

I always assumed it was “Meena” in Dracula, and that’s how it was pronounced in the audiobook I listened to. It’s short for Wilhelmina, after all, which would have the “meena” sound... I think!

HPLikecraft · 10/08/2021 14:54

Sorry, meant to add that I like the name too!

sailmeaway · 10/08/2021 14:56

Dracula, but I do like the name.
