Baby name long list help?

Roonilwazlib1 · 06/08/2021 19:03

Can you please help with suggestions based on our long lists? We dont know the sex of the baby yet! Thoughts on the below names welcome too.

Arlo - this is my favourite and I've loved it for years. Its recent popularity doesnt put me off, but DH says he likes it but he sees it as a "baby" name and not an "adult" name
Elijah / Eli
Ezra
Isaac
Cassian - is this too posh for a non posh couple to use!?
Evander
Stellan - too Scandi?

Lyra - we are big fans of his dark materials so it is from there, DH loves it, I am 99% sold but is it a bit "out there" and booming in popularity at the same time!?
Alice
Ivy
Cassia
Adeline
Adelaide

Any other suggestions please?

Oh I meant to remove Ezra off the list - it was DH suggestion but I'm not 100% keen so had decided to remove it!

Cassian or Isaac. I prefer Cassius to cassian tho. And no it's not too posh.... everyones called all sorts these days!

Jasper
Xander
Miles
Barnaby

Xanthe

Zara

Nice list of names, with some nice, unusual (but not weird) names.

Favourites are Cassian and Adelaide.

Other names:
Casper
Tobias
Seth
Lysander

Cassandra
Natasha
Vivienne
Darcy
Petra

DoingItMyself · 06/08/2021 19:35

Evander. Love it. Knew an Evander, he was a decent sort.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/08/2021 22:47

I love both Cassia and Cassian (I like Cassius and Caspian too so I clearly don't think they are too posh!). Also like Alice, Adeline, Adelaide, Evander, Isaac and Stellan (it is a bit Scandi but not too much I think, although could get confused with girls Stella as it's quite rare).

Lyra, Arlo, Ivy and Elijah are too trendy for me personally (I think they might date). Other suggestions:

Elias
Soren
Mateus/ Mathias
Nathaniel
Macsen
Owen

Antonia
Lilia
Jessamine
Emmeline
Josephine
Verity
Cecily

Nice fun names :-)
I like Cassius too. And Evander. Van for short!

Know Arlo and Ezra etc are v popular I do think they will date quite quickly given the surge but if you love it go for it

Stella for a girl 🙂

Elspethelf · 06/08/2021 23:05

My favorites from your list are Adelaide and Eli, but they are all lovely. Traditional but not too common

Yellowmoons · 07/08/2021 06:44

I'm not keen on an of your boys' names I'm afraid - Arlo and Isaac are the nicest, but feel quite overused to me. Other suggestions that springvto mind - Seth, Sebastian, Zachary, Joel, Ellis, Euan / Ewan.

I love Lyra - it's my friend's daughter's name - don't see it as being too odd or too popular. Alice and Ivy are also nice, but a lot of them around. How about Iris, Ada, Camille, Seren (Welsh for 'star'), Leila?

hullaballoo19 · 07/08/2021 06:47

Lyra is my female choice too! Sadly dp not as keen 😢

Elijah is nice, and I quite like cassian

sarah13xx · 07/08/2021 07:17

I really like Arlo. It’s a shame it’s become popular because it’s such a gorgeous name but it won’t stay popular forever so if you like it, go for it. Ari is also such a lovely name but more unusual.

Lyra I’ve only ever heard of once so definitely not becoming popular where I am yet. It’s nice though! Like Zara, Lara etc too

Roonilwazlib1 · 07/08/2021 12:10

Thanks everyone!

I quite like Elias and Ari is a good one I hadn't thought of!

Sebastian is one of my absolute favourites but I can't use it unfortunately! Sad

Iris and Lara are also nice!

Cassian is getting more positivity than I thought! Think that will stay on the list Smile

I have a Cassia and love it just as much now as when I chose it. I also love Cassian and Ari

Roonilwazlib1 · 07/08/2021 17:01

Yes I love Cassia I think it's beautiful!

I'd never came across Ari before this thread but it's on my list now, will see what DH thinks of it later Smile

Evander and Cassia are really good names.

ashko · 07/08/2021 17:49

I also have a Cassia and am really pleased with my choice. It's easy for kids to say and works well as a name for all ages. I had quite a similar boys name list to you OP so we must have similar taste. I particularly like Eli/Elijah/Elias.

Marty13 · 08/08/2021 03:07

I like Cassia but I think maybe I prefer Cassandra ?

Lyra sounds like a fine choice but if you're not sure Myra also sounds similar.

Really like Eli but I prefer Elias to Elijah for the full name.

Regarding Arlo, there's a wiki article about a war hero who was called that, maybe reading it would help convince your OH ? It definitely convinced me.

poodlepip · 08/08/2021 09:51

Cassie?

Roonilwazlib1 · 08/08/2021 11:00

@marty13 ah that's a good idea, I already mentioned Arlo Guthrie but it didnt mean anything to him! He's interested in wars and world war history though so that could bring him round!

I do like cassie and would probably have it as a nn for cassia rather than Cassandra Smile

bloominglovelyorange · 08/08/2021 11:03

I really love Arlo despite its popularity it has such a lovely sound to it (and I actually don't know any Arlo's!)
I'm not surprised DH can't picture it on an adult as there's virtually zero adults with this name at the moment but it'll be a totally standard adult name by the time your baby is an adult, maybe you could reassure your DH about that.

Milo
Ellis
Tristan

Roonilwazlib1 · 08/08/2021 12:19

I agree @bloominglovelyorange! I love names with lots of vowels in in general Smile

Its been my favourite name since I dont know maybe 2013/2014 and i dont know any in real life either! There are a few well known arlos but not too many really and like I said none I've ever known of in person!

Amichelle84 · 08/08/2021 12:29

Love your names!

I really like:

Arlo
Cassian
Ezra
Casper (I'd have this but it's my friends babies name)
Evander

We have on our list:

Albi
Archer
Ezra

I also really like Phoenix and River but got very firm no's.
