What are your thoughts on Bellamy for a boy?

No it's ridiculous. It's a surname

BluebellsareBlue · 03/08/2021 11:30

Jesus H Christ!! Really? Just naw!

ILoveShula · 03/08/2021 11:40

Awful. Nice as a surname but not as a first name.

tsmainsqueeze · 03/08/2021 12:08

Awful.

pantherrose · 03/08/2021 12:14

Yep, Bellendy was the first thing that crossed my mind. Of all the lovely names there are, I wouldn’t wish that on any child. He’d also get called Belly for short!

Tal45 · 03/08/2021 12:39

Awful sorry.

Giveszerofox · 03/08/2021 12:42

As in 'crawling through the undergrowth' David ? Hahahaha nope 🌿🌱🍁🍃

user89764 · 03/08/2021 12:45

I'd assume you were a Muse fan.

It's a surname, and not one that suits being a first name very well.

Londoncatshed · 03/08/2021 12:47

I’m sure David will be touched.

So many great nicknames for teen boys to chose from too.

Thoughtcontagion · 03/08/2021 15:29

@NonShallot

Is in Matt Bellamy, lead singer of Muse? If so, don't name your child after your own interests, allow them a bit of autonomy poor thing! They will forever be explaining what their name means long after Muse are long gone and the younger generation have never heard of them.
I also thought Matt Bellamy, think it will depend on generation as he was my first thought.

I wouldn’t call my kid that and I’m quite a fan of not following suit and also like muse

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 03/08/2021 15:31

Oh dear absolutely not!!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/08/2021 15:56

I'd probably assume you were fans of the 100, and secretly think naming a kid after a TV character is a bit downmarket. Then second guess myself and think perhaps it's a family surname given as a first name? Then third guess myself and think you were fans of the Botanist David Bellamy, but then why not use David? Then fourthly think that like Cassidy, Bellamy has a slightly feminine sound for a surname and so wouldn't be my choice for a boy. Sorry! But if you like surnames as first names, how about Bennett or Brody instead?

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 03/08/2021 16:07

I'd have assumed a girl, Belle-amy mashup.

Crowsaregreat · 03/08/2021 16:08

Please give your child a name that is a name. You're not naming a dog, someone has to go through life with the name, it's not some instagram individuality contest!

So that's a no from me.

AuntieStella · 03/08/2021 16:09

It's rather too surname-y for me, and I would definitely think of the botanist, who was rather sweet in a deeply eccentric kind of way

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/08/2021 16:12

The only person I know of in real life with the first name Bellamy, is the Scandal actress Bellamy Young who is female.

TatianaBis · 03/08/2021 17:17

Dreadful. It makes me long for John.

Soubriquet · 03/08/2021 17:19

You a fan of the 100?

Never did like Bellamy. Self righteous ass

riotlady · 03/08/2021 17:21

No, there used to be a Newcastle footballer called something Bellamy so all I can hear is football chanting when I read it

Jeschara · 04/08/2021 20:53

Sorry I do not like it.

peaceinourtime · 05/08/2021 13:27

Definitely a last name with lots of unfortunate nicknames.
