10 days old and still no name

Baby boy was born 10 days ago and we still can't decide on a name!

We love names that can have nicknames/be shortened.

My whole pregnancy we thought we would call the baby Winston but he just doesn't seem like one now. We still like it but not sure it suits him.

We like Arthur but not how popular it's become. But we like Artie and Art as nn.

We liked Malachi but it can be pronounced two different ways Mala(Kai) or Mala(chy) and I prefer Malakai and OH prefers Malachy. But we're both not sure. I like Mally and Kai as nn aswell.

Casper was also thrown into the mix.

I know it's silly but baby doesn't seem to suit an all out strong name and maybe suits something more chilled out or different/unusual apposed to traditional names.

We are open to anything at the moment and desperately need help!

Surname is Mcdermott often shortened to Mack by friends/family.

Arthur Mcdermott sounds like a strong combo to me. Not such a fan of Malachi, particularly with your surname (both reasonably long M names) and as you say, you have different pronunciation preferences.

curiouscatgotkilled · 29/07/2021 15:35

Arthur is a great name, it has good short versions ( I like Art particularly) its well used but totally classic so not used in a faddy way.
I dont think you can go wrong with Arthur.

I like Arthur but it does seem to be incredibly popular at the moment

Arthur McDermott sounds the best IMO although it is very popular I don't think I'd let that put me off, Casper also works well with your surname.
Not keen on Malachi I think it's too much with your surname.
What about Albert nn albie

Gabriel

Charles/Charlie likewise

Lennox/Lenny

Rafael/Raf/Rafa

Morgan/Morgs

If not Arthur maybe Arty?

OpenTheBloodyWindow · 29/07/2021 15:57

I think Malachi McDermott is absolutely awesome name! Although I prefer your pronunciation. How about just Malcolm? Calum?

Caspar is cool too.

Winston and Arthur, I'm sorry I don't like at all.

Ralph

I cannot understand the love for Arthur! Sorry to those with Arthurs.

I hope you choose a name you’re happy with… I would just say don’t worry if it doesn’t suit him now, he won’t be a baby forever!

My baby has a very non-babyish name, but it’s a good name and he’ll grow into it.

BorderlineHappy · 29/07/2021 16:51

When I had that scenario the only name that suited my D's was Ryan.

Schrutesbeets · 29/07/2021 16:53

I love Casper (nn Cas), it was my top boys name when pregnant

breakfasty · 29/07/2021 16:54

Albert?

MissyB1 · 29/07/2021 16:55

I agree with pp Joseph (Joe) would be lovely.

Or how about William (Billy)

Havanalily1806 · 29/07/2021 18:03

I like Arthur but agree with its popularity

Archer/Archie(nn)
Asher/ash(nn) are similar sounding.

Other considerations could be
Rafferty(rafe/ray nn)
Cooper (coop/coops nn)
Remy
Griffin (griff)
Harris (Harry)
Harrison (Harris/Harry)
Nicholas (nico/nick)
Ronan (Ron)
Sullivan (sully)

Archie Winston McDermott. Dream name!

Wombatstew · 29/07/2021 21:58

I suggest Vincent nn Vin or Vinnie

MaverickDanger · 29/07/2021 22:01

Caspar was on our list, we also really liked Conrad and might keep it for a possible DS2.

We went with Lachlan (Lachy) for DS1 in the end.

I also liked Finnian and Hayden.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 29/07/2021 22:02
