Met a grown-up with this name. Interesting.

Stop with your harshness. She's a real person called Nike living in Dublin and the poor soul probably got fed up of being called Noy-kee.

Like the Dublin pronunciation of Nike?

Storrreeee Bud, do ya like me new Nikes

Alieninmybody · 27/07/2021 18:26

Another Deirdre here but it is pronounced Deir dreh with an "eh" end rather than Deirdra with a "ra" sound at the end.

Oh dear, I definitely wouldn't like being a Nike in Dublin!! Mind you Naoice will confuse. I think I'd have gone with something like Nieke myself...used to know a Dutch Mieke and it's pronounced similarly.

I thought Nike was pronounced like Bike or nigh-key

duckyla · 27/07/2021 18:52

yes I say boo-ee
I was so confused when someone was talking about buoys at a beach pronounced like boo-ee.

The Greek pronunciation is Nee-kee but the anglicised version, like the sporting brand is Nye - kee.

I too thought the OP wanted a naice irish spelling for the name Nike too Smile

I know quite a few Deirdres ( Deerdrah ) but only one Naoise ( female ).
