Do you like it? What middle name do you like? Toyed with Joy, Hope, Daisy, Violet, Rose, Iris. Any of these or something else?

Lovely!

NotFrozen · 27/07/2021 09:24

I love it. My best friend was named Magdalena when I was a child and she was such a beautiful soul.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 27/07/2021 09:25

Beautiful.
I like Joy or Hope as a mn.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/07/2021 09:29

The flower names are all nice though Daisy is perhaps a bit too twee beyond for a small girl.

I don't much like the hard 'g' in Magdalena, or personally the biblical association. How about the similar but imo much nicer Mandalena?

Babdoc · 27/07/2021 09:47

Sorry Errol, I do like the biblical association!
Mary Magdalene was the first witness of the resurrection and one of Christ’s disciples - the “apostle to the apostles”. The lies about her being a reformed prostitute are thought to have been added centuries later by a misogynist church trying to write women out of Christian history by smearing their memory.

thinnerlikeachickendinner · 27/07/2021 09:49

Love it!

Bumblecattabbybee · 27/07/2021 09:57

I too love the biblical connection and it's actually why I chose the name Grin

I love it.

So many good shortenings too, if that’s what you want, but the Magdalena I knew was always full name. Also, I think, had an e on the end not a, but pronounced Magdalena.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 27/07/2021 10:08

My first association is with the Magdalen laundries, though I'm sure I'd soon get past it if I met a Magdalena. I really like Madeline, as another option.

Seanchailleach · 27/07/2021 10:36

I love this name, with all the lovely a sounds, and so many NN choices.
I don't know about middle names - for me it's a personal choice as they are so rarely used. I literally only know the middle names of my siblings, nephews and nieces. They all have very private stories attached, that no-one else would understand.

TeeBee · 27/07/2021 11:04

Gorgeous.

Zarene · 27/07/2021 11:05

Love it. I know a fabulous Magdalena/ Maggie.

mutedrainbows · 27/07/2021 11:17

Magdalena Rose is just lovely.

FriedasCarLoad · 27/07/2021 11:20

Love it, partly because of the biblical connection.

ThreeFeetTall · 27/07/2021 11:26

Do you know this song? One of my faves

As I said re biblical, 'personally'.... if you like it then go for it.

watergyspy · 27/07/2021 11:36

It’s gorgeous! Magdalena Joy is beautiful

WaitinOnASonnyDay · 27/07/2021 11:41

For anyone Irish it would have negative connotations from the Magdalena laundries.
It is a nice name but will inevitably get abbreviated to Mag/Mags

chesirecat99 · 27/07/2021 11:54

I love it. I went to college with a beautiful, cool and clever Magdalena.

I think it flows best with a one syllable middle name but how often do you say your full name, does it really matter?

I like the sound of Magdalena Hope and Magdalena Joy best but maybe it's a bit too virtuous as a combination?

MirandaMarple · 27/07/2021 11:55

I adore it. Has been a huge favourite of mine for many years. I love Magda too. Iris sits nicely with it.

EdgeOfACoin · 27/07/2021 12:30

Lovely

Magdalena Rose works very well.

Magdalena Faith
Magdalena Clare
Magdalena Ruth

NotMeekNotObedient · 27/07/2021 12:41

Magdalena Rose is lovely.

MaMelon · 27/07/2021 12:46

No - the Magdalene laundries were horrific, so it will always have that connotation for me (and I’m not Irish). I imagine it will be shortened to Mags or Magda, neither are particularly pretty imo.

TheVanguardSix · 27/07/2021 12:49

I really love this name. It is beautiful. And I like the diminutive Magda a lot. I think Magdalena Rose is beautiful. Though the Eastern European in me would go with Magdalena Maria or vice versa because the connection to Mary Magdalene is rather meaningful to me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/07/2021 18:30

Lovely name - I'm not sure why it isn't more popular in Britain, when it seems really well used in Eastern Europe (I don't think it can just be because of the Magdalene laundries). I'm really not keen on Magda though - it sounds harsher somehow. Maggie, Mae, Della, Lena, Lainey etc are all nicer nn's imo.

I like the Iris or Hope for middle choices - or perhaps Lily if you don't mind the repeated "L" sounds? Magdalena Lily sounds really pretty to me.
