Middle Name

Sapnupuas · 26/07/2021 12:26

I have a strong feeling I'm having a boy, so I may never use these names but I can't think of middle names to go with either of the following;

Erin
Madeleine

The obvious for Erin is Rose, but that's so common.

The reason for wanting a middle name is because my son has one, and it feels odd to give one and not the other.

Both of my grandma's names are awful so they're out.

Sorry, this is such a dull thread!

Alternatively, what about using your name? Or another female relative, aside from grandmothers? Is there a song you love or a book you enjoy with a girl's name that you like? Or a family surname you'd like to honour?

I think it's nice if middle names are meaningful. Is there no woman in your life who means something to you and has a decent name? Or character from book/film. Place name. Flower name.

This is exactly how I feel.

But, I'm stumped.

I've thought about Caitlin as it's my mums and my MIL's names together but I don't think it goes with either name.

I asked my husband what his grandmother's were called. Sheila and Minnie (he thinks). That'll be a no!

Thank you, everyone.

Caitin's nice but the sound is a bit matchy with Madeleine and Erin imo. How about giving her both your Mum and MILs names as middles? I have 2 middle names (both grandmothers) and my sibling only has the 1 (another family name) and it's never been an issue.

ElephantOfRisk · 27/07/2021 00:44

I think in this case I'd go off piste a bit.

Erin Hawk
Madeline August
Erin Juniper

Why not Erin Madeleine or Madeleine Erin since you like both names?

Middle names are nice to have but hardly get used so just use names you like.

Madeleine Kate is a contender. Thank you.

Kate isn't actually my mums name. It's the nickname my uncle (dead now) called her, as a derivative of her name, but no one else ever used it.

I have an Erin Lucy, she's nearly 3 and I still love the name, I have a Caitlin also for the same reasons two Aunties names together and then her middle name is the other Aunty (Rebecca) I think Erin Kate sounds lovely

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 27/07/2021 18:28

What's your name? I would have loved to have my mum's name as my middle name.

Lena264 · 28/07/2021 11:53

How about Erin Madeleine. Sounds nice to me

Caitlin is lovely as it actually has some meaning to you @Sapnupuas

Appreciate this is just my own perspective but who cares if a middle name flows well? You barely ever use it. I don't know even my closest friends middle names. Much better to pick something with meaning and added benefit of making your family really happy too
