Hi, I've been going through all different threads and can't find a baby name I like. I'm 18 weeks.

Can you suggest girls first names which you have come across and liked I.e in your child's class/in work

In my opinion....

Odette - too fussy

Darcey - chavvy*. Sorry.

Olive - makes me think of Olive Hoover from Little Miss Sunshine. Undeniably so uncool that she becomes cool, so quite a nice association. However my second association is Olive Oyl of Popeye fame. Less cool. I know it’s more common but I think that Olivia is much nicer.

Maisie - again, I think it’s got a chavvy edge.

Polly - like this, but is it a “whole” name? Feels a bit nicknamey. Isn’t a pet name for Dorothy? Would you be willing to use Dorothy?

Matilda - don’t like it. Have never understood the love for this. Makes me think of people desperately trying to appear middle class when they’re not.

What about these names that I think fit the style you’re going for but are infinitely better:

Olive …my favourite name . Very cool and trendy in the area where I live but not too common yet X

Polly is a personal favourite of mine. Also like Matilda.

Darcy is very Essex, Olive is small green vegetable - much prefer Olivia despite its over-use, and Odette is very dated as French name.

The only one I like is Matilda, sorry. Your style seems quite mixed but other suggestions:
