Don't know what to name our baby

NoHeavenNoMore · 24/07/2021 18:18

Please help!
Our baby girl is due in a few weeks and we're totally stuck. Any suggestions welcome and will be considered!!

Names we both like but can't settle on are:

Sadie
Aubrey
Taylor
Harper
India

We like the names but nothing feels quite "right". Did anyone else have this problem? Everyone we speak to was settled on their baby name from like, conception 😅
Thanks in advance

I didn't have names decided for either of mine - they were both nameless until they were a week old.

Sadie and Heidi were on my girl names shortlists - I also had Tessa, Rowan, Elodie, Claudia, Nadia and Samia if that's any help? If you like Romy, what about Romany?

yikesanotherbooboo · 24/07/2021 20:05

We didn't even think of names until babies were here so don't worry about the timescale. Whatever you choose will be your daughter's name and will be right. It isn't whispers a huge deal imo within the limits that you like the name and it isn't going to make life difficult for her in terms of spelling or pronunciation. FWIW I like Sadie which I think of as a pet name for Sarah and from pps Nancy, Marnie and Romy.

yikesanotherbooboo · 24/07/2021 20:06

Ps also like Heidi and Polly.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 24/07/2021 20:06

I just can't unsee that with Heidi

Unless you're German or Swiss it's a bit weird

That's quite nice RE Sadie actually, as my mums name is Sarah. I'm sure she would be honoured with the nod to her name Smile

India is beautiful. Romy is cute although I much prefer it as a nn for Romilly or Romola. Less keen on your other choices, they are too trendy for me (and I think of Aubrey as a boys name, although Audrey is quite cool). Sylvie instead of Sadie?

spaceghetto · 24/07/2021 20:13

Indie
Lettie

Ohhh just seen other suggestion of Nancy and Heidi. They are both completely wonderful. My dh and I struggled with naming our sons, we had lots of girl names. I think it's a common feeling as it's a big deal deciding on one. As soon as they were born, I told dh "you can choose" I all of a sudden didn't think it was a big deal, I was just so pleased they were here!

Chachachawoo · 25/07/2021 10:34

Firstly, I would take the pressure of yourselves. I named all my kids after they were born. Had made lists of what we liked during pregnancy but each time chose something different when they arrived, usually after a week or so. Tested out a few for a day or 2 before reaching a decision and didn't share options with family... did ask a few random friends bc we live outside of UK and needed to make sure they didn't have any weird connotations here.
I love Romy
Like Heidi and Sadie
What about Elodie? One of my faves and has similar feel...

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 25/07/2021 10:46

I love India and it’s not too common either. Heidi is cute.

Really dislike Taylor and Aubrey.

I didn’t name one of mine until a couple of days after he had been born as we weren’t sure. It really doesn’t matter if you don’t have the right name straight away. She what you think suits her when she’s here.

Mommabear20 · 25/07/2021 10:52

Try using all the names in different context! I know it seems impossible now to imagine shouting at your child, but wait till the toddler years! 😂 how would it sound shouted across a play park? What do the initials spell? (Do the spell something bad?)

bloominglovelyorange · 25/07/2021 11:31

I personally wouldn't wait til baby arrives and expect a name to suddenly jump out at you. For many of us that never happens and you're even more confused as no names really suit newborns! Try and decide before baby arrives

I think your list is lovely
How about
Willa
Daphne
Cleo
Pearl
Verity
Jemima
Clementine

@NoHeavenNoMore try not to worry too much, I stressed abs stressed before having my baby girl five weeks ago! We had a list of 30 narrowed it down to five but just couldn't completely agree none felt right, then when she came after an hour we named her a name we hadn't even mentioned my entire pregnancy!!!!

NoHeavenNoMore · 25/07/2021 13:03

@spaceghetto Skye! Yess love it. I like Indie too. Jasmine was top of the list early on, but my boyfriend doesn’t like it for an adult so that got scrubbed off.
@bloominglovelyorange - Cleo is amazing! Thank you!
The list is getting bigger and bigger tho with all of these suggestions.

@Chachachawoo that’s a good idea, I might try that with bump in the meantime. Refer to her by the different names and see if any stick. Not too keen on Elodie, sorry 🙁

Good point RE initials, middle name and surname will be CM so I don’t think we’ll have any problems with spelling anything rude - hope not anyway!

🤣🤣 oh no. I can see this happening to us at this rate! Does the name suit your little one though? Glad you went for it?

I love Sadie, Indie and Heidi. How about Jodie?

AnxiousAnnie86 · 25/07/2021 20:57

@NoHeavenNoMore i just couldn't find a name that felt right! We did narrow it down and I think I would of been happy with any of them, but they just didn't click. Then when she was here my husband just went "how about Guinevere" not a name he or I had ever thought of but it just felt right! We call her Guinny and it's perfect!

Our final ones were
Beatrix
Marcie
Riley
Maggie

If they help 😂

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/07/2021 23:37

Just echoing the no pressure to name immediately. Both of mine were called baby for at least 24 hours in the hospital.
We were dead set on a name for dd2 from about 20 weeks but she ended up with a name that had never even been on the shortlist!

NotMeekNotObedient · 27/07/2021 13:06

I like Heidi best too :)
