baby name - Huxley + associations

Really set on the name Huxley for our baby boy due November,
only association my husband & I connected was Aldous Huxley

However, did a quick search on these forums & see lots of people mentioning they wouldn't choose the name because 'Huxley Pig'. I googled & can see this is a kids cartoon that had 2 series 1989-1990 in the UK

My husband and I (born 1991) have never heard of this - can someone explain how popular this was & what age people recognise this association - I'm worried if its a household name, my husband less so

thanks so much - any info appreciated!

I'm 40. I'm singing the theme song to the cartoon just from reading the thread title.

Gregwiggle · 20/07/2021 17:11

I immediately thought Huxley Pig BUT I am 43 and won't be in any of your DS's classes, not will anyone who watched it.

I now have the theme tune in my head...

It's a lovely name tho!

saraclara · 20/07/2021 17:12

FFS. I've had an earworm for the entire 90 minutes since I posted on this thread.

StarryStarrySocks · 20/07/2021 17:12

I've never heard of the pig but Huxley sounds very harsh.

HeronLanyon · 20/07/2021 17:16

I think

  1. Surname not first name
  2. Sounds like a company name.
  3. To my ear (who cares, eh?) it sounds a bit naff.
I’ve not heard of the cartoon pig. I did wrongly think of the surf company Hurley fir some time. Congrats op.
Sisisimone · 20/07/2021 17:22

Why, just why?

Immediately thought Pig. Even if kids his own age haven't heard of it their parents and grandparents will have and they'll tell them its a pig. It will soon get back to the playground. I dont like the name anyway but do think he'll end up getting teased (and probs lots of oinks in his face)

RuthW · 20/07/2021 17:33

Yes my first thought was pig.

kurtney · 20/07/2021 17:33

I'm mid 40s. First thought was Aldous, second was Huxley Pig, Oink Oink.

Third thought was it's a great name for a dog. Sorry.

GraceLondon91 · 20/07/2021 19:09

@KirstenBlest

It's a surname. Will be shortened to Huck. Huck that.
why do you feel the need to be rude?
OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 19:11

Not being rude, giving an opinion.
It's a nice surname but Huck isn't nice.

Wooollffff · 20/07/2021 19:13

I like the name.

My DDs were born in the 90s and Huxley Pig was around then. I doubt many people remember it now. If you like it go for it!

inmyslippers · 20/07/2021 19:13

Another for huxley pig

RedToothBrush · 20/07/2021 19:15

Im 43.

I saw this thread and immediately thought of pigs.

I have never actually seen the cartoon. But i know of it.

Like the name and think it's very 'now' but the pig thing i couldn't get past.

CoffeeRunner · 20/07/2021 19:17

I now have the Huxley Pig theme tune stuck in my head Grin.

Warmduscher · 20/07/2021 19:19

I know one - lovely nice looking boy aged 8 and everyone has always said how nice his name is. His dm is cool and free spirited. So that’s what I think of when I hear this name.

Why is there always a poster on these threads who knows a child with the name and the child is described as cool? And this one is good-looking too!

sociallydistained · 20/07/2021 19:28

I randomly found myself looking up the Huxley pig theme thing on YouTube the other day 😂

… but I actually love the name!

Classica · 20/07/2021 19:37

I've googled this pig fella. Totally passed me by for some reason. I was more of a Portland Bill kinda gal.

LoislovesStewie · 20/07/2021 19:47

what will you be today, Huxley Pig;oink, oink! Yes, Huxley the psychedelic pig! I remember him well.

Foxhasbigsocks · 20/07/2021 22:02

@Warmduscher maybe because even a rare name is owned by a few kids in the uk!

I could tell you how I know H and his dm but I won’t as that would be fairly outing. I said he was nice looking - actually I primarily meant he looks sweet and kind. His dm was the person I said was cool.

It’s not a name I had heard at all before I met this family but of course reading this makes me think of him and I like the name.

No pig associations here Grin

ChrissyPlummer · 20/07/2021 22:12

Another one with the theme tune stuck in my head now! I also had the computer game. It’s a nice name but that’s my immediate association. There also used to be a butchers shop near here called ‘Huxleys’ as it was the family surname.

Joulesty · 21/07/2021 03:38

Also born 1991 and seeing the title immediately put the theme tune in my head!

I know a baby Huxley - when mum announced baby’s name there was laughter and references to Huxley Pig once she left the room.
The mum is not exactly the nicest of characters but I felt really sorry for the baby.
He is now an absolute terror. Obviously children in his class don’t get the reference but the parents do.
Just to balance the ‘cool good looking’ anecdote.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/07/2021 09:17

You could watch a few episodes on YouTube and see what you think: .

TatianaBis · 21/07/2021 09:25

I think of Aldous, I don't know the pig.

I had a friend as a teen called Huckleberry - nn Huck.

Sisisimone · 21/07/2021 10:20

I wish I hadn't opened this thread. Can't stop singing the fecking theme tune now. Driving me mad!

Cheesybiscuitsmineallmine · 21/07/2021 10:22

Huxley is a pig to me
