I have a girl Rowan, we call her Ro or Ro Ro which I think is cute and a bit more feminine. Although most people presume she’s a boy when I say her name Hmm

Rory really isn't unisex! It literally means red head king.

I mean, I know, Gilmore Girls ........ but nope, not suitable for a girl.

@Pigeonorcoot

I really like Ali.

Joey is very cute. In a good way.

Joey is the only derivative of my name that I really dislike. Excluding the usual Joanna/Joanne mix-up. Perhaps it's too many years of my older siblings taking the piss out of "little Joey"...!

Even Rory Gilmore isn’t actually called Rory, it’s just her nickname.

I didn’t think of names like Phoenix. I probably would consider that type of name unisex as it doesn’t really have a lot of traditional use for either sex.

BiBabbles · 16/07/2021 23:30

Robin's nice, I agree that Robyn is largely seen as feminine but I've many associations for either other than Winnie the Pooh.

I also like Jamie & Rowan. I think Lee can be a great nickname, but on its own it doesn't seem enough. Danny to me would be masculine, I've known way too many male Daniels who've used Danny with girls usually being Dani/Danni.

Similar-ish ones I can think of: Avery, Amery / Emery (I guess my brain associates -ry with unisex), Bryn, Caelen, Kacey, Sage, Shea, Sinclair

bloominglovelyorange · 16/07/2021 23:34

@Sweetpea1989 my baby girl is Rowan too but everyone mixes up and calls her Roman with an M. I hadn't realised Roman is the fastest rising boy name and boomed in last couple of years. Met loads. Typical. If I'd have realised, I wouldn't have chosen this name.

@Sianela - Aubrey?

I agree with the other posters, most of your names are traditionally boys' names rather than gender neutral. My spoken name can be both a boy's and girl's name which can get a bit annoying spelling it out each time. Personally I wouldn't want a traditionally boys only name and having to explain to people so I'd choose an unisex name, as people have suggested, such as Cameron or Alex(andra).

Uramaki · 17/07/2021 08:09

It's odd how there aren't many "girls" names used for boys but lots of "boys" names get used for girls.

Just pick whatever name you like OP, if a girl uses a "boys" name it will just be seen as a bit unusual but people will get over it

I don't think Mario can be said to be gender neutral. Wouldn't it be a man's name because the female would be Maria?

ItPearl · 17/07/2021 13:32

What about Morag or Ingrid or somethring really STRONG
Or Caro short for Caroline, or Christy short for christobel

snowone · 17/07/2021 13:33

Noa was my 1st choice for DD2 but I bottled it at the last minute.

I love Robyn, I think it's lovely.
