I agree with Alex, can be short for Alexander or Alexandra. Also Frankie short for Francis or Frances depending on sex, and Sam for Samuel/Samantha.

I’m not keen on Lee or Danny. To me they aren’t unisex (unless Danny is short for Danielle/Daniela) they’re just boys names stuck on a girl. I feel the same about names such as Riley, Elliot, Blake, Jordan, Parker - I have met little girls called all these names but to me they’re still not really unisex, and it’s rarely done the opposite way.

As a matter of interest, if you want gender neutral names, why did you say they were for a girl?

Id your list, i think only Robyn, Rowan and Frankie are actually unisex, others just boys names?

I love Billy for a girl

SnottyLottie · 16/07/2021 16:24

I think Rowan is the only completely gender neutral name out of your list. Robyn with a ‘y’ seems to feminise it more than just being plain neutral Robin. The others seem more masculine to me (maybe Hayden is more neutral than the others but I imagine it as more male than neutral/female).

I would add:
Alex
River
Quinn
Devon

And maybe Jude and/or Kit depending again on how neutral you want it to be

Gender neutral names for a child we are identifying as a girl until they are old enough to self-identify?

TeenMinusTests · 16/07/2021 18:21

I assumed it was more gender neutral names so that as an adult they don't suffer discrimination from them being obviously female.

I was just musing to myself whether the responses would have been different if asking for gender neutral names for a boy, so whether some gender neutral names are more female than others.

Happyd · 16/07/2021 18:32

Daryl..
Charlie
Jesse
Robin

Daryl

Sydney

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2021 18:52

@TeenMinusTests, names that are unisex tend to become girl's names if they become mainstream.

You can have names that are girl's names in some countries but female in the UK.

Jumpingintosummer · 16/07/2021 18:55

I like shortened names for girls better to give the child a choice in later life, such as,
Harriet-Harry
Juliette- Jules
Frances- Frankie
Nicola - Nic
Daniela- Dani
