Really like the names Rae and Drew for a girl? Could I have some thoughts please? I'm in the UK if that helps at all.

I like Rae. Drew I would always think of as a boys name.

JamMakingWannaBe · 13/07/2021 23:23

Rae I would assume is a nn for Rachel.
Drew is a boys name.

NuffSaidSam · 13/07/2021 23:47

I think Drew is fine for a girl because of Drew Barrymore, she's the first person I think of when I hear Drew. I don't really like it though. I don't like word names.

Rae is fine as a nickname bit not a given name. Makes me think of Star Wars. Or the bloke who lives next door.

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2021 23:48

I don't like either of them.

Drew is a boys' name.

Hmm interesting! Thanks for the replies so far, hoping to get some more :-)

I've taught both a Rae and a Drew (both girls, a few years ago) - both lovely girls so I would always have positive connotations with those names Smile

CatRamsey · 14/07/2021 09:35

I like them both!

Rainbowqueeen · 14/07/2021 09:39

Like Rae but not Drew

stormelf · 14/07/2021 09:48

I like them both. I prefer Rae but that's because it is a shortening I use for my daughter's name (different spelling though)

MrsPsmalls · 14/07/2021 09:58

My friend (50s) is Raella which I always thought was pretty.

StevieNix · 14/07/2021 10:01

I really like both but slightly prefer Rae.
I wanted to use Aurelia with nickname Rae for dc1 but he was a boy Grin

Kanaloa · 14/07/2021 10:11

They’re both ok. I like Rae as short for Rachel/Reina but I’m not keen by itself. Drew is fine, not my taste but fine. I think because of Drew Barrymore and the fact that it’s not very popular generally it works okay for a girl.

HoldingTheDoor · 14/07/2021 10:14

They're both bad. I hate the sound of Rae. Drew is slightly better but not by much. I think of it a boys name.

AnnaSW1 · 14/07/2021 10:19

Rae has become one of those default middle names here. Like Rose used to be.

drpet49 · 14/07/2021 10:20

Hate Rae

daisypond · 14/07/2021 10:21

Not for me. Unless shortened for something such as Rachel. Drew I’d assume was short for Andrew. Although I suppose there is Drew Barrymore.

MerryChristmasToYou · 14/07/2021 10:22

Rae is a surname, as is Drew.

Neither are great as a first or middle name. Drew is the better of the two but Rae especially as a middle name is awful.

Crunchyorsmooth · 14/07/2021 10:23

I watched Despicable Me 3 the other day and Gru’s twin brother is Dru, so I thought of that! I do like Drew on Drew Barrymore though. Rae is lovely - I’ve heard it used as a middle name quite recently.

moosel · 14/07/2021 10:31

I'm in the UK, my youngest DD middle name is Rea (Jessie Rae), I love the name Rae but wouldn't work with the surname for us. I dont think either are "Boys" names. Drews lovely too.

FatJan · 14/07/2021 10:33

I like DD1 (Dee-Dee One) as it is - very Star Wars

Amandasummers · 14/07/2021 10:35

I like drew and prefer it to rae!

GAW19 · 14/07/2021 10:37

Rae was actually a top contender for DD2, DP wasn't sold on it so we called her Maisie-Ray instead Smile

TwinsAndTrifle · 14/07/2021 10:40

Rae will spend her life correcting "Ray"

Pinknoise · 14/07/2021 10:40

Not keen on either sorry but definitely not Rae.

MindyStClaire · 14/07/2021 10:41

I think Rae is starting to become of a bit of a filler middle name based on threads on here - probably an evolution from May/Mae/Mai.
