Thoughts on Clove as a girls name, there is one in Hunger games, and i think Clover is used sometimes now.

No.

LittleBearPad · 08/07/2021 23:37

Clover is a name. Clove isn’t.

PersonaNonGarter · 08/07/2021 23:38

Clover or don’t.

Clove reminds me of cloven (as in hooves) and it seems aggressively masculine.

NeepNeepNeep · 08/07/2021 23:39

Of garlic? Don't do it

OverByYer · 08/07/2021 23:39

Awful
Clove of garlic?

DismantledKing · 08/07/2021 23:40

No. It’s a terrible name.

lottiegarbanzo · 08/07/2021 23:40

Clover (cow's name)
Clovis (ancient-history-inspired boy's name)
Chloe (normal girl's name)

NuffSaidSam · 08/07/2021 23:40

I quite like the sound of it, but I'm not keen on try-hard made up names and I would put it in that category.

You could go Clover and nn Clove. But it's just butter to me.

lottiegarbanzo · 08/07/2021 23:40

Oh, Clodagh (lovely Irish girl's name)

Nuggetnugget · 08/07/2021 23:41

No. Really no!

UrsulaLittleBear · 08/07/2021 23:41

I quite like the sound of it. But the above comments are off putting!!

DramaAlpaca · 08/07/2021 23:42

Clover is fine, it's quite a sweet, old-fashioned name.

Clove isn't good. It's like a bad combination of Clover and Olive and it doesn't work as a name.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 08/07/2021 23:42

Clover, old fashioned maybe but lovely.

Clove sounds like a boys name tbh. Sorry 😐

Pinkandpink · 08/07/2021 23:43

That’s awful and up there with the worst

SirVixofVixHall · 08/07/2021 23:43

Sophie Dahl’s sister is called Clover I think ?
Agree it is a Jersey Cow name more typically . Clove ? No. Clove of garlic, cloven hoof, just no.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 08/07/2021 23:45

As in ‘of garlic’? No. Clover is nice though.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 08/07/2021 23:45

Clover was Katy Carr’s sister, maybe that’s why I love it, read that so much as a kid Blush

Feather12 · 08/07/2021 23:46

Clove sounds a bit clunky, which is odd as I find Clover really pretty.

TheFoundations · 08/07/2021 23:46

Clove??

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/07/2021 23:46

May as well go with Bulb OP Grin

NeepNeepNeep · 08/07/2021 23:47

People will tease and call her a cow/margarine. Just because it's in a book doesn't mean it's good.

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 08/07/2021 23:47

Of garlic?

NuffSaidSam · 08/07/2021 23:49

'Clover was Katy Carr’s sister, maybe that’s why I love it, read that so much as a kid'

That's what Clover makes me think of too. Loved Clover in that book. I do think it's been ruined by the butter though!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/07/2021 02:16

Clover is really lovely if you can get past the butter brand (I'd be slightly wary of "spreads easily" jokes from teenage boys). Clove just sounds very hippyish to me (makes me think of clove cigarettes) and isn't quite as nice a sound imo.

How about Sage instead? I suppose there are possible stuffing jokes but it has a nicer sound to me and is a bit more well used than Clove (16 girls and 9 boys last year) and also has an lovely obvious Latin meaning ( "wise" since we still use the same word in English).

I know a girl called Clove! I’ve always thought it’s such a beautiful name, it’s a bit like Chloe but more unusual
