Not sure....can't stop singing..

The calliope crashed to the ground but that is a great song.

jerometheturnipking · 08/07/2021 16:58

Cool name, only go with it if you're happy with Callie too.

Changechangychange · 08/07/2021 17:01

Lovely name. One of my colleagues is a greek Kalliopi, and I think it sounds so beautiful.

lolacola77 · 08/07/2021 17:02

Ridiculous

Doublestar · 08/07/2021 17:02

Sorry, it reminds me of Callipers (those brace-things for legs).
It's not a nice sounding name imo and everyone will pronounce it wrong.

SingingSands · 08/07/2021 17:05

It's a fab name.

Metallicalover · 08/07/2021 17:10

We have the Calliope in Newcastle which is the navy base named after a navy vessel HMS Calliope.
It's nice for a boat, not for a baby

cheeseisnice · 08/07/2021 17:13

It's awful, sorry. But on mn it does it appear to be well liked for some reason.

BillieSpain · 08/07/2021 17:14

Adore it! I also have an HMS ship named with my name (Greek classic) and don't give a shit.

It has gravitas, go for it. It will serve her well and she will stand out from the crowd.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 08/07/2021 17:15

I just see cantelope melon.

Palavah · 08/07/2021 17:15

Like it

BlusteryLake · 08/07/2021 17:15

Definitely not one I would choose
Be prepared for a lifetime of mis-pronunication. It reads like Cally-ope.

MN loves a pretentious ‘classics’ name.
Phantasmo · 08/07/2021 17:20

I don't like it. As with a pp it reminds me of leg callipers that polio patients had to wear.

MySocalledLoaf · 08/07/2021 17:21

I know one my age, it suits her. She’s mostly Callie though.

SirSamuelVimes · 08/07/2021 17:22

I like it. I wouldn't be brave enough to use it though.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 08/07/2021 17:22

Even though I know that is how it is pronounced, I only ever read it as Cally ope. It just won’t settle. I think it is clunky and even though I quite often like names branded as over the top and pretentious, I think it is pretty dreadful. I think it’s the eee ooo peee part.

AdaColeman · 08/07/2021 17:23

Not as pretty as Iphigenia.

It's a beautiful name said in Greek, but I'm not sure you have the pronunciation correct- it's Kall-ee-oh-pee. It's not pretentious to me; it's my aunt's name and she's Bobbie for short!

Phantasmo · 08/07/2021 17:26

I'm not sure if this is a joke or not.

This is how I would have pronounced it too.
