Girl’s name suggestions

We have ages to think about it as not due until January, but DP and I are currently struggling to find much overlap in names we like for a girl - we have surprised ourselves by finding boy names much easier.

So far we “could live with”, but don’t especially love:

  • Alice
  • Elizabeth
  • Catherine (Kate)
  • Charlotte
  • Emily
- Abigail - Isobel

We both like relatively traditional names, but these all just seem a bit too traditional for me, whereas DP seems less bothered by this. He likes slightly girlier names ending in a or ie type sounds (his other suggestions: Evie, Ava, Isabella, Amelia, Chloe, Francesca) whereas I’d like something a bit stronger, ideally not top 50, and tend to prefer consonant endings (Harriet, Merryn, Corinne, Laura, Emmeline, Blythe).

Does anyone have any suggestions that might bridge the gap, or opinions on the list above?

Thank you!

Personally I wouldn't settle for a name that you can just live with.

If he likes the e or a endings, how about Henrietta? His choices are super popular so that might be another consideration?

One solution would be to give a strong name with a consonant ending which has a girlier shortening. E.g. Hattie for Harriet, Milly for Emmeline

Martha
Annabel
Madeleine
Iris
Genevieve
Evelyn
Juliet
Beatrix

Can I just say Stephanie? You just don't get them any more, but I think it's a nice, traditional name while retaining the feminine sound. Similarly, Caroline.

I like traditional classic names too and from your list I particularly like Alice and Charlotte. Both beautiful, elegant names x

I think your list are all a bit meh. Very overused. Same with your husband’s list. But I like Francesca and I like Blythe.

I would just buy a baby name book and go through the whole lot.

Thank you all - I really love a lot of the suggestions here! Unfortunately DP has already vetoed most of them Hmm . My name has also been mentioned on here - shame my parents already used it!

@TatianaBis this is what I’m worried about too, which I think is why I don’t really love any of them and would feel like we’d be settling. Have managed to persuade DP to let me add Blythe to the maybe list, though, so that’s progress!
