Hiya everyone,

What are your thoughts on the name Betty Anne ?(Betty) I quite like it and think its due for a revival.
I also know a child who was given the name Rosa and goes by the name Betty.

I like Betty.

Elizabeth was one of the names I considered when i was pregnant, but it didn't really suit my son!

I thought Betty would have been a lovely pet name.

VenusClapTrap · 06/07/2021 09:08

There are a couple of small ones locally, although I think one is spelt Bette. It’s a bit too cutesy for me personally.

I love Anne though.

Livpool · 06/07/2021 09:15

I think it is nice - there is a girl in DS's reception class called Betty

ElderMillennial · 06/07/2021 09:17

I like Betty

Elizabeth was on my list if DC2 was a girl

HoldingTheDoor · 06/07/2021 09:21

Betty is awful. It somehow manages to be ugly and cutesy at the same time.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/07/2021 09:24

Betty is a nice and traditional form of Elizabeth, and Elizabeth Anne is lovely, but I'm not sure Betty-Anne works together.

Would you consider Betsan?

woodfort · 06/07/2021 09:26

Oh I love it, I know (knew) a few old women called Betty, most late 80s or even 90s now and they are all lovely.

Personally I’d probably use it as a nickname for Elizabeth but as cutesy names go I much prefer it to most others.

hawkehurstgang · 06/07/2021 09:28

Love Betty but not Betty Anne. Betty is retro cool, Betty Anne is reminds me of the name of one of the victims from a documentary about a serial killer from the 1970s Blush Or a mousey Deidre Barlow type. Sorry, awful things to say, but just being honest! Betty alone is fab though!

BiBabbles · 06/07/2021 09:38

I think Betty Anne is lovely.

As short for Bethia, Betony, or the traditional Elizabeth already mentioned would probably be more my thinking, but I prefer names with more options - Betty is nice I think without that though.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 06/07/2021 10:00

I don't like either of them and especially not together. What about Bethan?

Palmatree · 06/07/2021 10:51

Not keen at all - just reminds me of old ladies or Betty Boop. I think if you really want to use it, go with Elizabeth, then she'll have choices as she grows up. Betty can be a nn.

PattyPan · 06/07/2021 12:11

I don’t really like it, sorry. Betty Anne sounds like she works in a diner in Tennessee. Betty as a nickname for Elizabeth dilutes it a bit.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 06/07/2021 17:57

My Gran was called Betty and she hated it. It’s too cutesy.

I think it needs to be a nickname for something else so she’s got options when she’s an adult.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/07/2021 23:07

Betty is so retro that it's trendy now - so I'd stick with timeless Elizabeth on the BC and just introduce her as/call her Betty. I don't think I'd want Betty as a given name personally (as a nn it's cute) and Elizabeth Anne is pretty much as classic as you can get.

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2021 10:38

Betty is awful. It somehow manages to be ugly and cutesy at the same time.

Yes, this. It's quite an achievement really Grin

Marguerite2000 · 07/07/2021 10:43

Absolutely awful. Betty just sounds really old fashioned. Adding Anne doesn't enhance it at all (my name is Anne, and it's really just a nothing name to me. I'm completely indifferent to it).

toastofthetown · 07/07/2021 10:48

I know Betty is coming back but I’m not a fan. I wouldn’t want to be called Betty. Betty as a diminutive for Elisabeth is fine, but not as a standalone name.

CircleofWillis · 07/07/2021 16:07

I'm astonished that no-one has mentioned Frank Spencer and his "Ooh Betty!" yet. It must be dying out as a reference but has forever ruined the name for me.

Trickytreacle · 11/07/2021 00:12

My 8yr old dd is Betty Grace - we love it!!

Mamamovingnorth · 11/07/2021 06:13

Love Betty!

tintodeverano2 · 11/07/2021 07:02

When I was younger there was a shop called Betty's and everyone called it Sweaty Betty's so that just sticks in my head whenever I hear the name Betty. I don't like it.

schoolsoutforever · 11/07/2021 19:52

Betty is great - go for it! Maybe Elizabeth first but Betty known as? love it.

Effie97 · 08/07/2024 18:14

My grandmother's name was betty ann and my mother name me bethany for her.
