Wilbur or Albie

Help! I thought I decided on the name Wilbur for a boy, this gives lots of options so I love Wilby as a baby then he could be will, Wilbs, Wilby or Wilbur. Bit now I'm having second thoughts after telling a few people I find myself half waiting for there reaction. I also love the name Albie ( not short for anything ) but husband thinks when he's an adult it won't sound good. What do you guys think?

I don’t think either of those names will suit a boy or a name.

LittleNibbler · 05/07/2021 12:23

Love Albie and know an Albie. Not as sure on Wilbur,, but to be honest I would wait until baby arrives and see how you feel. I wasn’t sure about my DS’s name and had a few options and when he was born one name just felt right and we named him immediately. Also don’t worry about other people’s opinions, go with what you like. Do they both work with your surname? If you aren’t 100%, what about something similar? For example Albert as his official name but you call him Albie. Or William but you call him Wilbur? That way there are options. Congratulations. X

Wilbur took me straight to the pig from charlottes web, sorry 😫

eddiemairswife · 05/07/2021 12:25

Not Wilbur, Charlotte's Web!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/07/2021 12:26

I love Wilbur

NuffSaidSam · 05/07/2021 12:27

I prefer Wilbur.

Agree with your DH it's less cutsey when he's older.

Could you use Albert on the bc for Albie so he has the choice when he's older?

drpet49 · 05/07/2021 12:28

Wilbur sounds like a dogs name

Terrazzo · 05/07/2021 12:28

Heh I know brothers Wilbur and Albert. They also considered Percy and Herbie?

I mean Al is more grown up/manly than Wilbur I would have thought

There is a Wilbur at a baby group too and loads of other Berties, and Wilfreds etc. So by the time they’re grown up they will be men’s names ?

atracurious · 05/07/2021 12:32

I like Wilbur. I think your main error here is telling people at all to be honest - your baby, your choice! People will always have an opinion.

Albie is also nice but I would have to call him Albert and give him the choice of being Bertie if he preferred later on.

Good luck

BashStreet1 · 05/07/2021 12:44

I don't think Albie would suit a child once they're past primary school- it's too cutesy.

Wilbur- would work better for an adult but I don't like it, too old fashioned and my first thought was the pig in Charlotte's web.

RogueMnerHidesUnderABigHat · 05/07/2021 13:02

Isn't albie the name of the character Woody Allen plays in Annie Hall?

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2021 13:20

I don't like Wilbur at all. It's an odd sort of a name.

Albert is fine, Albie not so much, but then I dislike cutesey names.

Joolsin · 05/07/2021 13:24

Neither, both have a "wibbly" sound that just sounds ... wet and drippy. Albert is stronger

toastofthetown · 05/07/2021 15:08

I prefer Wilbur. I know Albie is a top fifty name now, so people will have to get used to it, but it sounds so cutesy to me that I really struggle to picture an Albie above the age of about ten.

riotlady · 05/07/2021 15:12

I like Wilbur! Charlotte’s Webb is a great book too

PattyPan · 05/07/2021 15:59

Wilbur does make me think of the pig in Charlotte’s Web and is a bit wet but it’s better than Albie which is terrible as a full name. I like Albert.

TourdeTarte · 05/07/2021 16:17

Both terrible.

resm · 05/07/2021 16:24

I know an Ailbe (Irish, same pronunciation) which doesn’t seem as cutesy on an adult with that spelling.

SirenSays · 05/07/2021 16:28

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I read Wilbur and thought pig but had no idea why 😂 I don't like either but then I'm not a fan of all these old man names that are coming back.

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/07/2021 16:32

They are both cartoon pigs. Please don't.

Bagelsandbrie · 05/07/2021 16:34

I have a guinea pig called Wilbur Grin

How about Wilf or Wilfred?

Cbeebiesrehab · 05/07/2021 19:21

Like Wilbur but hate Wilby. Albie is very, very popular if that has any bearing on your decision.

RuthW · 05/07/2021 21:51

Wilbur is lovely. Albie is awful for a full name although Albert is nice.

Chilldonaldchill · 05/07/2021 22:23

I like Wilbur.
The only Albie I know is 17 and suits the name fine.

Orphlids · 05/07/2021 22:32

Your husband is correct.
