Sibling for Ophelia?

We already have a 2yo Ophelia and are expecting a baby girl in November. It’s been much more difficult coming up with a name this time around, but so far have Claudia and Cecilie (yes spelled like that - I don’t like the Cecily spelling for some reason, and seeing as it was the name of the princess of Greece, have convinced myself that it’s usable!). Thoughts on those two? We also love the name Arabella but my sister got to it before we could sadly :(

We live in SW London if that makes any difference - I know some names are subject to accents/pronunciation.

I love Cecilie and Claudia. I think I'd choose Cecilie to go with Ophelia.

TatianaBis · 30/06/2021 22:36

I prefer Cecilia to Cecilie which is a bit twee and think it goes better with Ophelia.

phoenix2409 · 30/06/2021 22:53

I love Cecilia too but it rhymes with Ophelia!

Not if it’s Ce ci lia rather than Ce cee lia.

phoenix2409 · 30/06/2021 23:01

Ahh, around here it’s definitely ‘ce-cee-lia’ so we’d be constantly correcting people I’m afraid :(

Ottilie? Perhaps to much to have another O Name

Jemima?
Lucinda

TatianaBis · 30/06/2021 23:14

I live in SW London…

Ce cee lia is usually spelt Cecelia

phoenix2409 · 30/06/2021 23:15

I love love love Ottilie but DH and both of our parents say it reminds them of utterly butterly or otterly, so I persuaded DH on Cecilie as it feels similar but reminds people less of the faux butter brand Confused

How interesting! Where abouts are you? We’re in South Ken. Everyone here pronounces it the same way (there are two in DHs monkey music and another at nursery) regardless of spelling! Also, wasn’t St Cecilia ‘ce-cee-lia’?

I like the name Claudia but really wouldn’t use it with a sibling Ophelia. For me it’s way too similar to Claudius, who is the murderous king in Hamlet. Ophelia is a lovely name but I wouldn’t go out of my way to link it to the Hamlet character - which I think having a pair of Hamlet characters would do

hawkehurstgang · 01/07/2021 03:21

Agree you can't have Cecelia. It definitely does rhyme. Even if pronounce Cecilia the difference in sounds is tiny! I love Cecilie, spelled like this. What about Hermione, Clementine, Tabitha, Beatrice, Ariadne, Dorothea, Theodora, Odette.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/07/2021 03:36

Athena

SmackMyAssnCallMeJudy · 01/07/2021 03:59

I was coming on the suggest Odette, but I see it’s already been mentioned. I had an old school friend called Odette - she was very gamine and really suited it. Two O names may be a bit much, though.

Confusednewmum1 · 01/07/2021 04:24

Lydia
Claudia - amazing
Thea
Nina
Anna
Elodie - different not normally a fan but goes with Ophelia I think

phoenix2409 · 01/07/2021 04:43

Thanks so much for all the suggestions!! I’m really looking for thoughts on Claudia vs Cecilie as those are our two frontrunners at the moment and it’s so hard to get DH on board with a name, I’ve almost given up on suggesting new ones ☹️
