George/Georgie

Due our little boy in 6 weeks time and still struggling to pick a name.
I absolutely love the name George but my OH brother is called George and OH thinks that's a bit strange.
What do other people think about that?

The only thing that puts me off is that we have a little girl who is almost two and not sure if it will be confusing for her suddenly having a baby George when she already had an uncle George?

A couple of friends have suggested nick naming him 'Georgie' but I have only heard of girls called this?

If you think either are a silly idea and have any other suggestions please do tell!

People do it, but I've always thought it a bit daft myself.
I think it just creates unnecessary confusion and labelling of 'big George' or 'old George' etc. as obviously lots of people will know both. There are thousands of names to choose from, so it seems like it is creating an issue where there needn't be one to me.

It might seem like your setting a precedent and your family would be expecting next baby to have a name from their side. Maybe use it as a second name.

I wouldn't unless George is a family name that's gone through the generations

Georgie is a girls name, a shortening of Georgina.
And you run the risk of Georgie Porgie.

Georgie is definitely a girls name.

Personally I'd choose another name. Otherwise he'll always be little or small George. Your ds deserves his own name imo.

I do like George but there’s a name like this that’s already taken in my family and I’m not using it. I think it sounds like you’ve named the baby after the person and that wasn’t what I wanted
