@ChairOnToast

Amazed everyone is saying Adelaide. You know it’s a city in Australia and not a name don’t you?
Ehhhh, and who is it named after?
BunnyRuddington · 25/06/2021 21:10

You know it’s a city in Australia and not a name don’t you?. The city Adelaide was named after the Queen Consort.

mangodreams · 25/06/2021 21:11

Adelaide over Margot definitely. Margot is such an ugly name.
I prefer Adeline or Addison over Adelaide though.

BigfatJ · 25/06/2021 21:11

Wow thank you @ChairOnToast, I had no idea. Thank goodness for people like you eh

RickOShay · 25/06/2021 21:14

I much prefer Margo.
Addy is not great as a nn. I know one. She’s nearly always Addy.

BunnyRuddington · 25/06/2021 21:15

I think Marguerite is much prettier than Margot.. Marguerite was on my list for DD Smile

Piapea · 25/06/2021 21:16

Adelaide is such a beautiful name.
Margot is pretty too but I definitely prefer Adelaide :)

RoseMartha · 25/06/2021 21:16

I like Adela better than Adelaide

LoopTheLoops · 25/06/2021 21:32

Adelaide but then I find Margot really ugly sorry

historygeek · 25/06/2021 21:57

Where in the country do you live?
I love Margot but live in an area of West Yorkshire where it would be pronounced Maaargoor.

Hyppogriff · 25/06/2021 22:01

Ad. Margot is really popular atm

Synchrony · 25/06/2021 22:04

I adore Adelaide. I wanted to use it as my top choice, but husband vetoed 😭

A city in Australia and not a name ? 😂
StudentPurse · 26/06/2021 12:21

Adelaide. I love Margot as well but if I ever have a little girl I want to name her Adelaide, I think it’s absolutely beautiful

daisypond · 26/06/2021 12:29

Margot is nicer. I really don’t like Adelaide.

It was named after a person. Queen Adelaide, the wife of William IV who was king when it was founded.

It's an Anglicised form of the German name Adelheid.

I'm hearing it in Hull. Hmmm. Mah-geerrr
LolaSmiles · 26/06/2021 14:26

Both are nice, but I'd pick Margot.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/06/2021 15:57

Adelaide is lovely (although I like Adeline even more to avoid any risk of "laid" jokes). Margot is very trendy now so not my taste personally.

ProcrastinationStation3 · 26/06/2021 16:05

Oakley and Adelaide are two names which for me the primary association for them both is a place, so I really wouldn't have the two of them together. (Yes I know they're both names and have other meanings but say Oakley and my first thought is California say Adelaide and my first thought is Australia)

Margot is lovely. Go with that.

StayCalmX · 26/06/2021 16:25

Adelaide. Margot was so trendy for a while, but a while ago now. REady for something a bit fresher.

DramaAlpaca · 26/06/2021 16:29

Margot isn't in the least bit pretty. I find it hard and unattractive.

Adelaide is marginally better, but I don't like that the 'laide' ending means 'ugly' in French.

Twisique · 26/06/2021 18:35

Adelaide is lovely!

Also like Adaline (to rhyme with Caroline).
