Thomas

Still early days so plenty of time to decide. We both like Thomas for a boy and Anna for a girl, though the list keeps growing for each.

Was hoping for middle name suggestions for a boy (will def be Grace for the middle name if we're having a girl). Wouldn't mind an Irish middle name, but also love the idea of honouring a close relative (James, Joseph, Hugh, Daniel all options).

Other names on our list for first names were Brendan, James, Anthony, Michael, Rory and Kate, Eve, Eva, Aoife, Sinead.

Many thanks.

Thomas is a great name, timeless - and I've never met a Thomas or Tom that I didn't like.

Thomas Joseph is lovely - Hugh is a bit short IMO.

Thomas and Anna are up there with my most favourite names. I actually know a sibling set with these names.
I'm not keen on Brendan and Anthony and Michael seem quite dated. James is fine and I like Rory although I prefer the irish / scottish spellings and pronunciation of it being more a Ru than Roar sound.
Kate is timeless and underused these days I think but it doesn't flow well with Grace. Katherine Grace known as Kate or Katie?
Eve and Eva feel a bit like they've been done to death in recent years. Aoife and Sinead are good. What about Orla?

Yes, I agree Kate doesn’t sound well with Grace but would have the longer name on the birth certificate. Kate is my husband’s no. 1 pick and Anna is mine, but love both.

Orla is lovely, but seems a bit dated to me as I went to school with a lot of Orlas.

Can’t go wrong with any on your list Smile

Thomas is nice but since it's quite popular I'd probably use a middle name that's less well used currently - so lovely Hugh would be perfect imo. Of your other first name options, I do love Michael and James.

Anna is gorgeous - classic, international and not too overused imo, it's one of my faves along with beautiful Eve (but I think Anna sounds better with Grace, although Anna does "mean" Grace if that matters).

StevieNix · 22/06/2021 20:46

I don’t usually like classic names, I like something a bit more unusual. However I think Thomas and Anna are the exception and are both absolutely beautiful names!

dementedma · 22/06/2021 20:47

Love your choices, Anna is one of my favourite names. Thomas Joseph or Thomas James would be great

I had a Thomas Gregory.

Just came back to update, we welcomed a wee Thomas James in Jan. Thanks for the feedback at the time!

Congratulations! I’ve got a 17 year old Thomas, it’s a great name and Thomas James is lovely.

I would avoid James and Grace as middle names as they are very popular middle names
Thomas - would name a DS this
Brendan - not keen
James - yes as first name, no as middle name
Anthony - like it but don't like Ant, Tony is ok, better as a middle name
Michael - really like, would consider using esp as a mn
Rory - Wowy? Vovy? No

Kate - would name a DD this
Eve - nice but Eve, Evie, Evelyn, Ava overused
Eva - don't like it
Aoife - too close to the Evie/Eva/Ava trend
Sinead - nice but dated
